He probably won't be removed from office, but he has been impeached.

2020-01-16 22:10:36 UTC

Oh

2020-01-16 22:10:46 UTC

The trial started today

2020-01-16 22:10:47 UTC

Got it.

2020-01-16 22:11:11 UTC

Hate the word impeach...makes it sound like someone being turned into fruit

2020-01-16 22:11:26 UTC

There's been a few president's impeached but nobody has left office prematurely to my knowledge

2020-01-16 22:11:29 UTC

Yes now we can eat the peach.

2020-01-16 22:11:43 UTC

I don't taste good 😁

2020-01-16 22:11:49 UTC

Does that prevent him from running again?

2020-01-16 22:11:51 UTC

3 presidents have been impeached

2020-01-16 22:11:53 UTC

damn

2020-01-16 22:12:56 UTC

The trial proper starts a week from now. They're just setting everything up.

2020-01-16 22:14:10 UTC

There have been three impeachments of Presidents: Andrew Johnson, Bill Clinton, Donald Trump.

2020-01-16 22:14:47 UTC

They can still run again, but no one has ever been reelected after impeachment, though my money is on Trump getting reelected anyway.

2020-01-16 22:15:05 UTC

So what the fuck was the point in doing it?

2020-01-16 22:15:20 UTC

If it literally has no consequences?

2020-01-16 22:15:28 UTC

Also why the fuck are there no consequences?!

2020-01-16 22:15:30 UTC

It has serious consequences.

2020-01-16 22:15:47 UTC

The two big ones seem left the fuck out though

2020-01-16 22:15:55 UTC

An impeachment is essentially like charging the President with a crime of abusing the presidency.

2020-01-16 22:16:15 UTC

And then letting him stay in office and potentially get re elected?? Wtf

2020-01-16 22:16:33 UTC

There is a trial in the Senate, which must convict the President with 67 senators voting for removal.

2020-01-16 22:16:45 UTC

Which isn't gonna happen.

2020-01-16 22:16:51 UTC

There's too many Republicans

2020-01-16 22:17:40 UTC

Right. If the Senate is so partisan that they won't vote to remove even a "guilty" President, the only power of impeachment is to stain that President's name in history.

2020-01-16 22:17:54 UTC

Which is fucking insane

2020-01-16 22:18:17 UTC

Like I get that everyone deserves the right to trial and all of that

2020-01-16 22:18:19 UTC

I mean a simple majority vote in the house is too low a bar for removing a president.

2020-01-16 22:18:47 UTC

@DragonKit NEEERD

2020-01-16 22:18:55 UTC

It's the one time the Constitution let's the government simply agree to overturn the will of the electorate.

2020-01-16 22:19:35 UTC

A fair trial has nothing to do with it. This is a political trial.

2020-01-16 22:19:38 UTC

KITTEN

2020-01-16 22:19:40 UTC

However; there should at least be the inability to run for reelection if it's done in first term

2020-01-16 22:19:55 UTC

Not a criminal one. If Trump is removed, that won't make him convicted of any crimes.

2020-01-16 22:20:58 UTC

it wont happen.

2020-01-16 22:21:08 UTC

Isn't his term nearly over

2020-01-16 22:21:14 UTC

Its close to election year and its majority republican in the senate.

2020-01-16 22:21:17 UTC

It is but he can run again is the issue

2020-01-16 22:21:38 UTC

Yes he can run, because he's still an American citizen with a clean record and of age to run. He can still run if he hasn't served two full terms.

Generally impeachment makes you unelectable, but Trump's base thinks the impeachment is illegitimate party politics.

2020-01-16 22:22:18 UTC

Has he done anything worth impeaching?

2020-01-16 22:22:42 UTC

If the allegations are true, yes.
