What makes God so great? It is because He is big enough to stoop down and become like the lowest of His creatures. He came from the heights of Heaven to the lowest place on earth to present Himself as a humble carpenters son. To all outward appearances He was born of an adulterous relationship between Mary and who knows who. He lived among the common people, ate and drank with publicans and sinners and died the death of a malefactor. Are you too big to repent of your wicked ways, be baptized in His name and receive His Holy Spirit, no matter what it costs. Loss of standing in family, community and friends are just a few of the perceived drawbacks. That is often the way the carnal eye sees it. Don't be carnal. The reward is far greater than you can imagine.
