Yes we should have unity of the faith. As long as that faith is based on the Word of God. When you start leaving out inconvenient scriptures because they don't fit your narrative, then we might have a problem. Jesus Christ IS the Word of God. Will you begin to cut pieces off of Jesus?

@Shadetree49 are you referring to enoch?

@imig I'm not sure what you are referring to. Do you mean Enoch as referred to in the old testament or the so called book of Enoch?

2020-02-07 02:31:18 UTC

But what I was referring to is the tendency of many to pick and choose the scriptures they like and discard those they don't.

I believe the Bible needs to be taken as a cohesive whole. It is up to the reader to, as Jesus said, "Search the scriptures. In them you think you have eternal life and they they are they that testify of me".

If you think one scripture contradicts another then you haven't dug far enough. A good concordance will be of great help in that endeavor.

It is also of utmost importance to approach the Author before digging into the Word. Ask and you shall recieve.

Many of you may already know this, but in the Greek language that the New testament was written in, there are three different words, with three definitions, for our one word "love". The first, or lowest form, is amore or more commonly amorous love. That is the kind that appeals to the senses including sexual pleasure. Next is known as philao, as in Philadelphia, which is known as the city of brotherly love. That is the kind we should have for our fellow man involving kindness and respect. Last but in no wise least is agape or Gods love. While philao love might be dependent somewhat on how others treat you, agape love is pure and loves the unlovable. Not dependent on any return.
