Well tbh guy I think a oit of parents, especially before the 90s, did it primarily as a religious thing
I know its still an bad thing but many people in abusive marriages used the same reasoning to stay together. Their church was against divorce.

its never been the majority in the US
I haven't seen numbers but I would bet serious money its never been more than 20%

Circumcision is a social norm in the US
right but not for religious reasons
Islam does as well, kind of, but my personal research seems to say it's not actually mandated as such, just recommended, and Muhammad was circumcised

Protection from Penile Cancer, which occurs at a rate of .0014% Each year
Help protect women from HPV, which with Gardasil is now irrelevant
Phimosis, Balanitis and balanoposthitis are numbers I do not know
But even with a complication rate of circumcision on the extreme conservative side of 2% I do not see this being a net positive like doctors claim.
