Well because such conditions are much deeper then their symptoms, what we stereotype as the mental illness is not actually the illness itself

2019-01-14 23:55:29 UTC

You aren't answering how it is diagnosed..

2019-01-14 23:56:04 UTC

Boys right. I still have no idea what it looks like.

2019-01-14 23:57:23 UTC

Well usually through testing, I know one of the big things for testing ADHD is hyper alertness, getting severe mental blocks, making it difficult to finish tasks, also going into hyper focus... and because of brain chemicals, caffeine puts me to sleep

2019-01-14 23:57:52 UTC

It comes across kind of like a matter of extremes with no middle ground.

2019-01-14 23:58:17 UTC

You are either switched on can can’t turn off or turned off and can’t be made to focus.

2019-01-15 00:00:14 UTC

sure but afaik testing for autism isnt standard and would have to be observed in some manner before a child would be referred to a specialist. But when traits exhibit as creativeness and empathy (which are not things people look for when it comes to mental disorder, nor is it something without a vast degree of variation in people without a mental disorder), surely this would go unnoticed. So they can't be diagnosed on those symptoms alone

2019-01-15 00:00:24 UTC

Diagnosis took a while for me at least, which is why is very troublesome that boys are getting diagnosed after one doctors visit.

2019-01-15 00:01:15 UTC

Well I know one of the biggest flags for Autism is generally looking all over the place and unable to hold eye contact while in a conversation with someone

2019-01-15 00:01:42 UTC

That's also a symptom of social anxiety

2019-01-15 00:02:07 UTC

Hence why it can be difficult to diagnose

2019-01-15 00:02:26 UTC

Correctly at least

2019-01-15 00:03:57 UTC

Most illnesses tend to have symptoms that overlap with something completely different, it’s why you needs to take time and care when looking into this kind of stuff... not just saying “it’s most likely this” and then handing over a bottle of pills to fix a problem that may not even be there

2019-01-15 00:04:47 UTC

Hence so many young boys being put on strong ADHD medication despite not having the condition .

2019-01-15 00:06:01 UTC

Mmm

2019-01-15 00:07:41 UTC

We are getting a much better understanding of these conditions but we still need to shake old stigmas about them if we are to move forward, they can be quite complicated especially since individuals are different so it will not always look the same between different people.

2019-01-15 09:28:51 UTC

Are you a trained physician?

2019-01-15 09:31:25 UTC

I'm sorry to say this, but nothing you're saying makes any sense. It's just a bunch of uninformed platitudes. Please don't tell me you're a shrink.

2019-01-15 09:39:20 UTC

What's going on? Did somebody delete some comments here?

2019-01-15 09:39:31 UTC

Nah.

2019-01-15 09:41:24 UTC

I'm an oral surgeon, not a psychiatrist. He sounds ridiculous in his ramblings.

2019-01-15 09:55:52 UTC

no, I am saying this from the best of my understanding as someone who did go misdiagnosed for a very long time, it's also a little different in my country and medication is much more heavily regulated so much harder to profit on, giving doctors less of a reason to misdiagnose (if that is even a thing at all)

2019-01-15 09:56:19 UTC

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't mean to attack you.

2019-01-15 09:56:53 UTC

na, it's fine, fair to be skeptical always... is a good habit

2019-01-15 09:57:38 UTC

just because this is something current studies are hinting towards doesn't mean it is the correct answer.

2019-01-15 09:58:03 UTC

Where are you from?

2019-01-15 09:58:11 UTC

Australia

2019-01-15 09:59:28 UTC

Had I been a psychologist, I would've diagnosed your garrulity as logorrhoea.

2019-01-15 09:59:33 UTC

It's a jooooke...

2019-01-15 10:00:45 UTC

yeah well, I am a well known spastic =w=

2019-01-15 10:01:07 UTC

And I'm a well known drunk who likes to push buttons.

2019-01-15 10:01:27 UTC

guess we have a lot in common then xD

2019-01-15 10:01:33 UTC

Heh.

2019-01-15 10:55:30 UTC

ty for the article btw, I see what you mean by it being a little scattered but was a good read ^^

2019-01-15 10:57:16 UTC

can confirm about students selling ADHD drugs around, idk about high school but defiantly TAFE and Uni ... also truck drivers will give you money for pills too xD

2019-01-15 10:59:02 UTC

And other things ;)

2019-01-15 12:07:43 UTC

I'd say outside America most cases are real. Inside.... We'll watch Take Your Pills. It's about how students and others use the system to get the amphetamine that they prescribe for ADHD and how kids are given stuff like ritalin - especially boys - to shut them up.

2019-01-15 12:10:35 UTC

Louie did an episode on drug prescriptions to kids in America as well

2019-01-15 12:11:21 UTC

Yeah. I saw that.

2019-01-15 12:11:28 UTC

That poor boy.
