I have lived in Brazil since i was 3 though...

I have lived in Norway my whole life (except I also lived two years in Scotland)

Where in Brazil? How is it to be Muslim in Brazil? I assume they better understand the idea of believing in God (something that is completely alien here in Europe)

What do you do otherwise? Work? Study?

I live in a city next to São Paulo, the biggest one in Brazil.

The people react with curiosity when I tell them that I'm a Muslim

In general, they don't have any idea of what Islam is

And they get surprised of how Islam is close to Christianity in terms of belief

The worst part though is the muslim community itself

I try to keep it a secret at first. But when asked I tell. I remember one guy at work who was completely shocked and disappointed. He said "But you are highly educated in the sciences?!" and he stopped himself from saying "what is wrong with you?". He just turned quiet and completely baffled.

Many people here call themselves Christians, but most don't believe in the Bible or God (according to the Eurobarometer from 2005, only approximately 25% of Christians in norway say they believe in God.) so they consider Islam a bizarre religion.

Although atheists aren't many, most people here act like them.

Many atheists are perfectly nice as well of course even though they have no rational reason to.
