A white guy with a deadend job, a divorced wife that won't let him see his kids and a declining mental state starts to lash out at a world that he beleives betrayed him. He also worked on ICB missiles, so perhaps he has some regret, or maybe he's just sad he didn't get credit.
But yeah, he was a true patriot who got fucked by the system.
Imagine giving your life to a country that hates you, and look around and the lowest common denominator is thriving while a literal rocket scientist is left out in the cold. I'd be angry too.
