Possibly a bad analogy when scaled beyond two groups interacting. Maybe more like a pile of radioactive dust, each speck an individual and every particle an opinion, over time the interactions between the particles bouncing around will change what the dust is, change how it interacts with surroundings and the individual specks will change at different rates and different ways.

By the time your analogy would happen in the real world all the particles will have given off so much radiation there's nothing left alive in their vicinity
