I swear I keep thinking the crescendo comes but instead it just stops. Silence. And then "Crazy Nigger" picks right back up, with an incessant droning of one key being smashed repeatedly, haunting you, and taking precedence over every other sound. It drags, never stopping, for 57 whole minutes.
It's just so impressive. It's a real feat of ingenuity that a human being can make something like this. Your brain knows it is music, it bears all the signs of music, but it isn't music. No, it's something else. Something disturbing and stressful. And that's the beauty of "Crazy Nigger", it laughs in your face. Flaunting its insincerity and harsh tones. It knows it isn't a song, and it revels in that fact. And that is why I am in love with Julius Eastman's magnum opus, "Crazy Nigger"
Dave Brockie died when he and GWAR were peaking.
"I just meant I thought they made the best music of their career with their latest album, in my opinion, and Oderus (and GWAR) were starting to really get noticed as the brilliant spectacles that they were. I think Dave was the most important rock musician to die way before his time since John Lennon. I was so shaken up I couldn't listen to or watch anything GWAR for more than 6 months."
