They bought into it because they felt capitalism was colonialism

2020-01-28 23:38:49 UTC

Then socialism prevented their economies from advancing

2020-01-28 23:39:05 UTC

....so what happened since then?

2020-01-28 23:39:20 UTC

2020-01-28 23:40:05 UTC

Successful countries are rare. Successful countries can build successful capitalisms.

2020-01-28 23:40:37 UTC

India is as succesful as it's capitalism

2020-01-28 23:40:40 UTC

Successful capitalist countries are pretty common

2020-01-28 23:41:01 UTC

Socialism leads to military dictatorships

2020-01-28 23:41:04 UTC

50 years of capitalism being unable to unfuck 6 years of thirdworldist maybe socialism isn't a great record.

2020-01-28 23:41:23 UTC

Capitalism can't unfuck Africa

2020-01-28 23:41:31 UTC

They have governments that are socialist

2020-01-28 23:41:38 UTC

Which destroyed their prosperity

2020-01-28 23:41:46 UTC

And often don't want to invite capitalism in

2020-01-28 23:41:49 UTC

socialism is ingrained into their minds

2020-01-28 23:42:03 UTC

same with south Americans

2020-01-28 23:42:08 UTC

If you don't try capitalism capitalism can't save you

2020-01-28 23:43:58 UTC

2020-01-28 23:45:36 UTC

Please explain relevance.

2020-01-28 23:47:35 UTC

because, it's not the fault of colonialism that they aren't developing now

2020-01-28 23:47:59 UTC

The economy of Cameroon was one of the most prosperous in Africa for a quarter of a century after independence. The drop in commodity prices for its principal exports —petroleum, cocoa, coffee, and cotton — in the mid-1980s, combined with an overvalued currency and economic mismanagement, led to a decade-long recession. Real per capita GDP fell by more than 60% from 1986 to 1994. The current account and fiscal deficits widened, and foreign debt grew. Yet because of its oil reserves and favorable agricultural conditions, Cameroon still has one of the best-endowed primary commodity economies in sub-Saharan Africa.[15]

2020-01-28 23:48:07 UTC

doesn't sound the worst

2020-01-28 23:48:09 UTC

ethnic crisis in africa is not a colonialist construct

2020-01-28 23:48:34 UTC

I am not blaming colonialism for present day problems

2020-01-28 23:48:49 UTC

you where a while ago

2020-01-28 23:48:49 UTC

Recent signs, however, are encouraging. As of March 1998, Cameroon's fifth IMF program — a 3-year enhanced structural adjustment program approved in August 1997 — is on track. Cameroon has rescheduled its Paris Club debt at favorable terms. GDP has grown by about 5% a year beginning in 1995. There is cautious optimism that Cameroon is emerging from its long period of economic hardship.
