So CHARM will punch through shit real good up close, better than M829 or DM-whatever the fuck, but it can't do shit at range because *rifled 120*

2019-02-01 02:08:46 UTC

Oh yeah, the guns being upgraded *finally*

2019-02-01 02:09:06 UTC

Except they want a German gun because what is in-house production amiright

2019-02-01 02:09:40 UTC

I mean, its fucking retarded, you want a gun and you go to Germany and not BOFOR's?

2019-02-01 02:10:48 UTC

That said its as stupid as us using a rifled gun for so long anyway when smoothbore and FS became the standard for NATO nations years back, and has proven to be superior

2019-02-01 02:12:41 UTC

But once again we are only just coming out of the "We will have to fight off hordes of USSR tanks in defensive positions" mindset. Shit, look at WW2 and how long it took us to admit the Cruiser concept of "speed is armour" was shit and actually make a good medium tank, or shit, to admit that the 2pdr was actually useless and upgrade our tanks to the 6pdr.

2019-02-01 02:13:08 UTC

It comes down to it we get our stuff done but we take ages to do it, or to even admit it needs doing in the first place.

2019-02-01 02:25:47 UTC

It's a weird peculiarity in British thinking

2019-02-01 02:25:56 UTC

I've noticed it everywhere

2019-02-01 02:26:16 UTC

You guys shitcanned jet aircraft until the 262 started raping stuff

2019-02-01 02:26:35 UTC

It took ages for the RN to get up to current design standards

2019-02-01 02:26:43 UTC

And the aircraft, my god.

2019-02-01 02:27:48 UTC

Even so America still has the lead on us

2019-02-01 02:28:31 UTC

*Especially* in ground attack aircraft - who else has put a howitzer and an actual broadside onto an aerial platform?

2019-02-01 02:28:47 UTC

Ehh, US aircraft peaked in the Cold War and have gone well downhill since "stealth is life" meme became IRL

2019-02-01 02:28:52 UTC

as an american all I can say is *I love big booms*

2019-02-01 02:28:59 UTC

deadass I want a p51 with a 40mm

2019-02-01 02:29:08 UTC

To be fair we have less than three dozen Gunships.

2019-02-01 02:29:28 UTC

They are too specialized as tools to procure in large numbers.

2019-02-01 02:29:31 UTC

Yes, but aircraft are supposed to go head on towards the target, *not swing around and engage it with a full broadside*

2019-02-01 02:30:12 UTC

Its like napoleonic naval strategy's *but flying*

2019-02-01 02:31:23 UTC

Also stealth is kind of good with all the advances in targetting tech we have these days, it gives you a better chance of getting to your target

2019-02-01 02:50:31 UTC

I mean not really.

2019-02-01 02:50:44 UTC

Stealth has to be tailored to a specific band

2019-02-01 02:50:50 UTC

X, normally

2019-02-01 02:51:01 UTC

And it only really works for single emitters

2019-02-01 02:51:33 UTC

Which is a problem when you have SAM systems that use multiple emitter systems that themselves each use variable band radar

2019-02-01 02:51:51 UTC

Then you have infrared all-aspect, which are effectively impossible to spoof anymore.

2019-02-01 02:52:18 UTC

You have to either dodge them, outrun them, or shoot them down. The last one is the only feasible option when the missile is rated for Mach 3.5 at 9g continuous.

2019-02-01 02:56:10 UTC

Ah

2019-02-01 02:56:38 UTC

I thought Stealth tech was a blanket all thing, thats actually pretty interesting that it only has specific bands it can hit.

2019-02-01 03:48:33 UTC

Well technically you can stealth for any given band. But only a handful are used (or generally useful), and X is by far the most common. Fun little fact, the Germans invented K band radar. However, in typical Teutonic fashion, K band also happens to be the exact absorption frequency of water. So when they turned it on, all the transmitter power was effectively microwaving the air humidity. In effect, the Germans made a swamp-ass beam that would cause an area to become muggy and horrible.

2019-02-01 04:05:28 UTC

That is actually really cool

2019-02-01 04:06:16 UTC

Actually, can you imagine weaponizing it? You could inflict some nasty damage to your enemies morale by essentially stifling there forces for days on end.

2019-02-01 04:36:35 UTC

That would be the absolute worst.

2019-02-01 04:37:08 UTC

A directed K-band emitter with a modulation that causes it to drop from slightly above K-band to K-band in the target area.

2019-02-01 04:37:19 UTC

Directed swamp-ass ray

2019-02-01 04:37:24 UTC

*Hanz, prepare ze Florida ray!*

2019-02-01 04:37:33 UTC

Project Florida

2019-02-01 04:37:37 UTC

Oh gods im dying

2019-02-01 04:38:25 UTC

Why are humans so obsessed with weaponized forms of light wave?
