The vz52 uses an entirely proprietary bolt and gas system

It has nothing to do with the sks minus being later converted to it's caliber

It resembles a gewehr semi in overall format

But the front tilting bolt and concentric gas piston are exclusively czech

It does however have a garand style safety and German inspired sight.

Right so it's a Czech semi-auto rifle that is contemporary with the Garand, G43, and SVT

It has oddly futuristic gas system but yes

The VZ is unique in that it has an incredibly smooth and robust gas system, and being entirely concentric around the barrel, the barrel is the piston guide

As well as zero tilt or rotation

It’s not really comparable to the SVT or Garand

It’s in an intermediate calibre

Hence “not an SKS”

I don’t mean it’s a clone or copy, rather that it’s a ten-round intermediate carbine with a folding bayonet
