commercial 30-06 loads are bound to SAAMI pressure limits, which are based off turn of the century guns. If you havd load you can take advantace of the case capacity better with modern powder

I came in late but the only reason you would choose a 30-06 over a 308 is if you hand load and want to play around with your load data a little more

SAAMI is kind of a joke sometimes

why?

their load data is usually pretty conservative

well yeah, thats why most commercial ammo is safe to put through just about anything made or it. If you wanna get hotter you do have to reload, or go to a specialty company that specialises in hot stuff

saami ammo does run hotter than the EU spec stuff so keep that in mind

30-06 is better at long ranges just because slightly higher muzzle velocity and projectile weight.

But it's marginal at best

Unless you're an honest to god sniper where even ~1% differences in ballistics can throw a shot, it doesn't matter

As far as I can see 30-06 only gets about 400J more muzzle energy too

the heavier bullet can also be nice for getting cleaner takedowns

but then again I am a .300 win mag fag

I mean 300WM is indisputably better than either 30-06 or 308

But then it comes down to the person firing being able to take the recoil

when you can fling a 155gr at mach 3 ye

win mag is when it starts being ok to use a muzzle device

Factory accelerator loadings when remmington did them had 30-30 goin 3400 fps, 308 goin 3770 fps, and 30-06 goin 4080 fps All loaded with a 55gr sp

now imagin the speed of that projectile from a 300 win mag that can be loaded right up to the rifle's pressure tolerance
