Or that the BFD needed for serious spalling would entail your chest being caved in
Otherwise the fiberglass "spall" would just get caught in your carrier.
Also I never said it was an amazing idea. Just gets the noggin joggin.
Personal plates are lvl 4 ceramic w/spall liners.
Buuut im in the army now so i just get gov plates and kevlar.
I'd like to see a proper NIJ test battery on that $30 plate.
Someone should. Id watch.
@Demoranch
You'd need 14 plates total for a single threat test
14 more plates for each additional threat
Okay, so NIJ III and IV standards are as follows
III: 9 panels, 6 shots per panel. 4 panels for ballistic limit testing, 4 panels for BFD testing, one spare.
IV: Enough panels to get 24 BFD test shots and 12 ballistic limit test shots, 1 spare.
If you only want single-shot IV protection, you need 37 panels total
Then you take the rest of the 14 panels and condition them with water and cold and shit, then run the same tests.
So it's like 10 "new" and 4 "conditioned" for each threat
I mean... it would still be hella cheap compared to comercial plates.
Just... idk if someone is gonna fuck with that much fiberglass
Ceramic plates are nice
I just stick with steel and kevlar tho
The carrier will wear out before a steel plate does
Gonna have to duct tape that bitch to your chest
SD should be ftx, black hills, good shit and range can be 855
I don’t stock M855 at all
Can’t use it on steel, a lot of ranges don’t allow magnetic projectiles
855 is meh
It's plentiful
For range use, Wolf Gold or PMC bronze 223
Wolf is surprisingly decent
I’ve gone through... maybe 6 cases of Wolf Gold. It has no relation to other Russian made Wolf steel case. It’s Taiwanese M193
Currently $263/case
I've been stocking the m855 mostly because I'm next to an outdoor range where it can be used and it's kinda cheap here
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I like the cheap maylasian shit
Dunno if I’ve seen Malaysian 5.56
The germans have cheap 5.56 no?
MEN
My previous understanding is that 1:7 twist in a shorter barrel requires heavier weights (62gr and up)
Is that not the case?
Maybe my research was wrong?
you can still shoot 55gr
Like at most my range for defensive use is 100 yards barely
Realistically more like under 50
