Hello friends, I've recently acquired a firearm license and I would like to get into recreational shooting. I am open to recommendations on my first ever firearm and I would appreciate your inputs.

@Darn I'll give a serious answer. Garbage rod is slang for a Mosin Nagant. Barring that, I suggest an SKS or an SVT, as I understand you Leaves have reasonably priced SVTs. If none of those sound good, Norinco makes an M14 copy for the Canadian civvie market.
