2019-02-04 17:06:09 UTC

Hello friends, I've recently acquired a firearm license and I would like to get into recreational shooting. I am open to recommendations on my first ever firearm and I would appreciate your inputs.

2019-02-04 17:06:31 UTC

@Darn australian?

2019-02-04 17:06:45 UTC

I am canadian

2019-02-04 17:07:55 UTC

fucking leaf

2019-02-04 17:08:52 UTC

I understand that Canada have more strict policies on civilians owning firearms and I would like to know if there are other Canadians that could share their experiences with owning, obtaining, and maintaining their firearms

2019-02-04 17:17:31 UTC

Thank you for your input

2019-02-04 17:58:39 UTC

@Darn I'll give a serious answer. Garbage rod is slang for a Mosin Nagant. Barring that, I suggest an SKS or an SVT, as I understand you Leaves have reasonably priced SVTs. If none of those sound good, Norinco makes an M14 copy for the Canadian civvie market.

2019-02-04 18:00:45 UTC

Nasty Eastern Block shit is very cheap up here. My first SKS cost $100

2019-02-04 18:01:02 UTC

From a gun store no less.

2019-02-04 18:01:40 UTC

@Darn what do you need to know in particular?

2019-02-04 18:02:50 UTC

There's always a Canadian thread on /k/

2019-02-04 18:02:57 UTC

The canucks have a discord too

2019-02-04 18:39:11 UTC

I'd like to know which firearm I could get started with

2019-02-04 18:39:24 UTC

Something that a beginner could use and maintain and learn about

2019-02-04 18:46:43 UTC

In that case, do you want a bolt action? Mosin, although they kick hard, especially the carbines. If you want a semi-auto though, SKS is the way to go.

2019-02-04 18:47:50 UTC

Russian guns are designed for serfs whose life experience before conscription was pulling onions out of the ground or hitting things with a hammer in a factory.

2019-02-04 18:48:14 UTC

Get a .22 in something

2019-02-04 18:50:02 UTC

^^

2019-02-04 18:50:14 UTC

People need to quit suggesting milsurp as a first gun

2019-02-04 18:50:31 UTC

BUY SKS

2019-02-04 18:50:50 UTC

don’t actually

2019-02-04 18:51:47 UTC

I see what you're saying Runes, but both of those guns do fit what he's asking for. Besides, don't Canucks have a limit on the number of weapons they can have?

2019-02-04 18:53:10 UTC

I am pretty sure with my license there'd be a limit on how many I have

2019-02-04 18:53:30 UTC

And I am very interested in the bolt action design

2019-02-04 18:54:04 UTC

Get a .22 then milsurp

2019-02-04 18:54:35 UTC

Just get a 10/22

2019-02-04 18:55:06 UTC

@Darn I’d recommend an AR-15 to be honest

2019-02-04 18:56:04 UTC

Is that the civilian sporting rifle version?

2019-02-04 18:56:13 UTC

Simple to maintain, parts are everywhere, along with mags and ammo

2019-02-04 18:56:31 UTC

Yeah

2019-02-04 18:57:08 UTC

My first gun was a M&P-15 1.0 with no forward assist and with a brass deflector
