Ah, Nix v Hedden...quite the case.

I can't name anything else that has more profoundly changed the course of History.

What I understood from that is whenever a word is used the common meaning, or what the word is more known by the typical speaker, will be what is acknowledged despite using a dictionary to show otherwise.

In short, even if you show what something originally meant in the past it won't matter, and the present use of the subject supersedes the old meaning.
