well i already filter the crap out of my water...been doing it for 2.5 decades
i may not get everything but i need power to get the rest
few notes about the carbon filtering they didn't mention is ...carbon filtering works by dissolving in the water to bind to contaminates in the water, unless u got an extra filter to block those carbon bonded contaminates...ur just still drinking them in
good particle or membrane filtering will do nicely...reverse osmosis works very well post carbon filtering stage...but it needs cleaning alot
and gets costly on replacing it
to extend lifespan on reverse osmosis filters...add levels of particle filtering that are way cheaper than reverse osmosis membranes prior to the reverse osmosis phase of the water filtering
oh and most of the lead contamination isn't from lead pipes so much..unless ur water supply system is that old....most lead contamination comes from lead based soldering joints of copper based water supply pipes
other contaminates are in the fluxes used for soldering those joints...use organic vinegar or lemon juice for a safer flux on the pipe soldering...and they now have lead free solders too
when ever the local water dept works in the area to replace a pipe ....flush out ur system(turn on a few taps for a bit to get the crap out of the lines), when the water gets turned back on in ur area
when installing a filtering system...always setup a bypass for such events of local repairs or filter changes so u don't screw over urself
