The FAL was NATOs standard weapon from the 50s onwards

Except for americans

and Brazil keeps using it but as a Modernized Variant

The M16 was arguably more practical

I mean imagine fighting in the jungle with a 5kg FAL

it happened with the Australian Forces in Vietnam
