Something you have to consider is that divine intervention one way or the other seriously fucks up the flow of the world. I'm of mindset that god laid out the groundwork for life and lets it progress as is. His intervention comes when you finally die and are subject to judgement. Otherwise he had nothing to do with those dead kids and mother. That was merely, unfortunate as it may sound, are purely human action. The mom will pay the price just as she should, but I promise that the kids are in a much better place.
