2019-03-08 13:25:12 UTC

Wait, we do?

2019-03-08 13:26:40 UTC

For those who are living in Europe:
Does it make sense for a male to go and seek mental help?
Or at least some sort of professional assertion of their mental state?
I am being far too iffy about it, because after seeing the APA definition of masculinity, I do not think that the European institutions for psychology will stop going the same way

The Person above me has the Oof

2019-03-08 13:29:38 UTC

Morning nibbas

Morning

2019-03-08 13:31:40 UTC

The stopping thing is about phrasing. We men refuse to overshadow women.

2019-03-08 13:31:47 UTC

And morning thorax

2019-03-08 13:36:25 UTC

@Kragt the baboon was actually a funny reference šŸ˜‰

2019-03-08 13:38:00 UTC

@Thorax, Crash'n Burn model Most places you are going straight into the crazy person category if you seek mental help in Europe

2019-03-08 13:39:21 UTC

@Thorax, Crash'n Burn model That is the social stigma, not to mention most people there are probably female

2019-03-08 13:39:31 UTC

Well fuck.
Now I won't know something about me I could have used for my gain or found something that helps me get my shit together<:GWsetmyxPeepoWeird:405337568155009024>

Of course without being prescribed zoloft

2019-03-08 13:40:17 UTC

Cantwell did nothing wrong

2019-03-08 13:40:34 UTC

lol jk

2019-03-08 13:41:25 UTC

@Thorax, Crash'n Burn model You don't want to be on any SSRI mate, better look up some psychologist online

2019-03-08 13:41:45 UTC

@Thorax, Crash'n Burn model I can only speak for the US side of the psych industry, but I know the EU uses the same models the DSM is built on, so you can find help, but it’s going to take a lot of trial and error.

2019-03-08 13:42:43 UTC

You could probably get more out of reading Jordan Peterson’s books, much less Jung or any Greek philosopher, in the meanwhile.

2019-03-08 13:43:06 UTC

@Five, Seven, and Two They don't, they have their own manual, but it very simular

2019-03-08 13:44:00 UTC

@Five, Seven, and Two I agree with that, I have done a lot of Jordan Peterson's lectures myself. Very helpful stuff

2019-03-08 13:44:01 UTC

@Baron Doom Didn’t say they used the DSM.

2019-03-08 13:44:36 UTC

Just his books?

2019-03-08 13:44:41 UTC

ICD is the one World Health uses, but I’m not sure that’s uniform for the EU.

2019-03-08 13:44:53 UTC

As a start?

2019-03-08 13:45:02 UTC

@Five, Seven, and Two I know you didn't say that, they have their own manual in Europe but it is more or less the same as DSM

2019-03-08 13:46:47 UTC

@Thorax, Crash'n Burn model You can look for a psychiatrist for professional help, but I’d recommend you start doing some reading of your own, in the interim. I suggest Peterson because, despite the flack, his stuff is at least accessible and neatly digestible by design.

2019-03-08 13:47:53 UTC

@Baron Doom I know UK and Germany use ICD, which is possibly even more fucked than DSM, but I’m clueless on the rest, much less anything in the Eastern Bloc.

2019-03-08 13:48:13 UTC

@Thorax, Crash'n Burn model You could start with Personality and it's transformation with Jordan B. Peterson

2019-03-08 13:49:08 UTC

@Five, Seven, and Two Yup, that is the European one I meant. And yes, both are pretty fucked up

2019-03-08 13:50:16 UTC

wew

2019-03-08 13:50:35 UTC

eh probably a good place to start

2019-03-08 13:54:30 UTC

@DoubleFreedom Putting yourself in the position of someone who has done little-to-no personal introspection, JP is the easiest thing to get them to start *any* form of introspection.

It’s the kiddie pool with water-wings on. Telling people to ā€œjust go readā€ Jung or Skinner or Erikson is like chucking a kid in the Northern Pacific for his first swimming lesson.

2019-03-08 13:54:48 UTC

aaa

2019-03-08 13:55:17 UTC

i added that last part so that i *wouldn't* get a reply that would require comment

2019-03-08 13:56:26 UTC

I’m used to you being sarcastic from start to end and I misread that last bit. Sorry, mate.

2019-03-08 13:56:45 UTC

@Five, Seven, and Two I agree, the course I mentioned is an intro to all of the above

2019-03-08 13:57:50 UTC

@Baron Doom Yeah, that’s the best start. @Thorax, Crash'n Burn model In case you missed it:

ā€œPersonality and Its Transformationā€
