You have two groups, one which condones murder and one which does not.
The group which does not condone murder will be better off in the vast majority of cases. They retain the most manpower and don't waste resources raising people to only have them die suddenly. Their society doesn't need to contstantly guard against someone else murdering them too.
In this abstract case murder is bad because it worsens the outcomes of the group that condones it.
