to go to college, get a shit degree, wear a button down shirt just like everyone else, and make self-depicrating jokes with your wife just like everyone else.

2019-02-07 17:42:27 UTC

And don't let any other failures tell you that talent is given to you by god or you're born with it or some horseshit.

Talent and skill come with trying and practice.

2019-02-07 17:42:52 UTC

Wrong

2019-02-07 17:42:52 UTC

Well isn't the definition of talent being born with that ability ?

2019-02-07 17:42:57 UTC

Skill is basically hard work.

2019-02-07 17:43:12 UTC

Some people are obviously gifted or talented compared to others

2019-02-07 17:43:37 UTC

a lot of "talent and skill" comes indirectly. things like stress control, how you were raised for the first 3-5 years of your life, etc.

2019-02-07 17:43:53 UTC

also genetics and variation

2019-02-07 17:44:42 UTC

The first 0-7 years of the kid and genetics pretty much define what you will be good at in the future because ***biology***

2019-02-07 17:44:55 UTC

I don't think so. Hard work betrays none, but dreams betray many.

2019-02-07 17:45:45 UTC

Hard work helps you chase your dreams. Lol 😉

2019-02-07 17:45:56 UTC

talent comes from the understanding of something that comes naturally to you due to your way of thinking
skill is built by learning the rules that make something stand

2019-02-07 17:46:01 UTC

Working hard alone doesn't assure you that you'll achieve your dreams. Actually there are cases where you don't. But working hard and achievieng something is some consolation at least.

2019-02-07 17:46:04 UTC

@[chase dreams] that's like saying the name of the movie in the movie

2019-02-07 17:46:15 UTC

2019-02-07 17:48:28 UTC

So I have a scene, as I interview [Bill] Russell at his home on this, and after a while I said, "Do you think you are a genius?" And he said, "No, I don't, but for many, many years, I remembered every play of every game that I ever played." So that's in his mind, that trap. That's special. That's not the normal person. That's not the normal player. That's not the normal musician, the normal dancer, the normal painter, the normal actor, the normal director ... that's the normal engineer. It's not. Every play of every game. He said the pressure got too much. I had to give that up. But still. And maybe he's not. I don't know what it's like to find and love to find genius, but it's different. It's different. And that scene, there's no verdict. Some guys think, yeah, there's a genius to it. Some guys don't.

2019-02-07 17:49:11 UTC

@lotodantes fair point.

2019-02-07 17:49:14 UTC

kids these days with their gadgets and digitronics. when i was your age, the economy is so great i didnt even have to lift a finger to support myself. the real wages i was making back then was over $20/hr in 2019 dollars for an entry level position. i had to work hard to get that. i got into college easy because literally nobody else in my family or my friends' families were applying and i wasnt competing with international students. kids these days.

2019-02-07 17:57:43 UTC

2019-02-07 17:59:43 UTC

My grandfather on my father's side is a rightwing traditionalist.

2019-02-07 17:59:44 UTC

Worthless kids these days, in my day if you didn't work 18 hours a day you were whipped until you bled.
