<:kannaPat:495069030411927553>

2019-03-15 16:03:27 UTC

Yeah I'm at school rn

2019-03-15 16:03:31 UTC

im pretty sure you didn't go through elementary school as the only one of your race in the whole school

2019-03-15 16:03:44 UTC

i got told "stupid asian go back to china" more times than i can count

2019-03-15 16:04:12 UTC

its not just the overt racism, its also the constant assumption that you don't belong

2019-03-15 16:04:16 UTC

nope! i went to a catholic school and never once did i hear about racial groups in the school fighting each other or spewing insults.

2019-03-15 16:04:16 UTC

why would anyone willfully GO BACK to china lmao

2019-03-15 16:04:20 UTC

I'm sorry to hear that floof

2019-03-15 16:04:29 UTC

when i moved schools, they asked me "where are you from" and i told em i moved from like an hour away

2019-03-15 16:04:40 UTC

then its always "no where are you *really* from"

2019-03-15 16:05:15 UTC

Mine was always white trash get out of here

2019-03-15 16:05:17 UTC

Well people are tribal when it comes to that and it always ends up with that "us vs them" mentality

2019-03-15 16:05:25 UTC

if you don’t look like a part of the native-born majority (white/black), is it not at least understandable that people might have thought you were an exchange student

2019-03-15 16:05:48 UTC

i think you are assuming way too much malice out of a question like that

2019-03-15 16:05:54 UTC

i mean someone asking where youre from isnt really racism is it

2019-03-15 16:06:00 UTC

they just want to know where youre from

2019-03-15 16:06:06 UTC

yes after i literally tell them that i moved from an hour away they don't buy that as an answer

2019-03-15 16:06:31 UTC

when i went to the US with my mom on vacation when people heard our accent they would always ask where im from because its obvious im not a native (from my speech)

2019-03-15 16:06:43 UTC

the same will probably ring true when i move here

2019-03-15 16:07:05 UTC

Floof people are not used to seeing stuff they are not used to see normally so it is natural to have that reaction

2019-03-15 16:07:33 UTC

theyre literally just interested

2019-03-15 16:07:40 UTC

when i asked my buddy dongyeon where he was from, he said “Georgia”, to which i asked “oh cool, you born and raised there? or were you from elsewhere before?” and he said “yeah, i was born and partly raised in South Korea.”

this is a normal and expectable conversation to have. it isn’t meant to be aggressive or hateful.

2019-03-15 16:07:40 UTC

its nothing mean or malicious

2019-03-15 16:07:50 UTC

yeah

2019-03-15 16:08:07 UTC

most of the time when you tell people were you were born n stuff, the reaction is like 'oh cool'

2019-03-15 16:08:57 UTC

i know its not mean or malicious, it just really irks me when the base assumption is that im not from here

2019-03-15 16:09:15 UTC

usually people don’t “buy” it when you say you’re local because they have previous experience with individuals who are new to a place like you coming from other countries. this isn’t meant to be an attempt to tell you you don’t belong.

2019-03-15 16:09:24 UTC

when i was born and raised an american its still assumed that im not from here

2019-03-15 16:09:53 UTC

I still have people asking what state I come from when I talk

2019-03-15 16:10:04 UTC

why not just answer “i was born and raised in the United States” then and kill them having to ask follow-up questions

2019-03-15 16:10:06 UTC

yeah same

2019-03-15 16:10:08 UTC

Its okay if that bothers you Floof

2019-03-15 16:10:23 UTC

i don’t look like most of the people in my city
