they just want to know where youre from
yes after i literally tell them that i moved from an hour away they don't buy that as an answer
when i went to the US with my mom on vacation when people heard our accent they would always ask where im from because its obvious im not a native (from my speech)
the same will probably ring true when i move here
Floof people are not used to seeing stuff they are not used to see normally so it is natural to have that reaction
theyre literally just interested
when i asked my buddy dongyeon where he was from, he said “Georgia”, to which i asked “oh cool, you born and raised there? or were you from elsewhere before?” and he said “yeah, i was born and partly raised in South Korea.”
this is a normal and expectable conversation to have. it isn’t meant to be aggressive or hateful.
its nothing mean or malicious
yeah
most of the time when you tell people were you were born n stuff, the reaction is like 'oh cool'
i know its not mean or malicious, it just really irks me when the base assumption is that im not from here
usually people don’t “buy” it when you say you’re local because they have previous experience with individuals who are new to a place like you coming from other countries. this isn’t meant to be an attempt to tell you you don’t belong.
when i was born and raised an american its still assumed that im not from here
I still have people asking what state I come from when I talk
why not just answer “i was born and raised in the United States” then and kill them having to ask follow-up questions
yeah same
Its okay if that bothers you Floof
i don’t look like most of the people in my city
Just give your answer and dont follow through if they ask something else
Despite living here for years, people are dumbys
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
People r dumb
it doesn’t offend me when people assume i’m not from Florida
i’ve had people ask if i was from Canada or Europe
it’s just how it is
Well thats better than being told to "go back to China" and whatnot
i’m not saying that, kotu
good
(although i have been told to go fuck myself and move back to the country by faggot city kids from the area, it is what it is)
any sort of “go back to x” shit is stupid
causes unnecessary problems
it’s almost universally unprovoked no matter what context it comes up in
last thing i’d want to do is defend that bullshit
if you or your family worked to establish themselves in the United States, do earnest jobs, and become citizens, there is no reason for you to feel unwelcome as a fellow citizen
or be treated as if you aren’t a citizen with as much right to live in the US as whoever it is saying it
@Fluffles you went to public school, right?
yeah
more like pubic school
Yeah I agree with that
