all you really need to know is the address and port

2019-09-14 13:14:03 UTC

True, however, what you can do is have the name resolve to the address, and then all you need is the name.

2019-09-14 13:14:26 UTC

that isn't something i can do on my end, thats on a per client basis

2019-09-14 13:14:32 UTC

Yes it is

2019-09-14 13:14:36 UTC

not all irc clients use the name and addresses in the same way

2019-09-14 13:14:42 UTC

In DNS configuration.

2019-09-14 13:15:18 UTC

I'm not aware of any IRC client that will not use DNS resolution.

2019-09-14 13:15:18 UTC

in the files, there is not configuration for that, i spent 22 straight hours setting this server up, i know what i can and cant do with it

2019-09-14 13:15:19 UTC

uh, ok...

2019-09-14 13:15:40 UTC

Right, it's not in the IRC server, it's in the DNS configuration.

2019-09-14 13:15:53 UTC

which isnt something i can do

2019-09-14 13:16:07 UTC

Yes it is, you control DNS.

2019-09-14 13:16:29 UTC

if your talking about in my router settings, no, no i cant, theres no DNS settings in my router

2019-09-14 13:16:36 UTC

your not the first to bring this up Aux

2019-09-14 13:17:40 UTC

Ok, you already have alina.net set to resolve to 144.217.252.90, right?

2019-09-14 13:18:06 UTC

You should be able to set irc.alina.net to resolve to 45.46.75.226.

2019-09-14 13:18:11 UTC

no, because i cant, for the last time, its not something i can do

2019-09-14 13:18:55 UTC

Yes, it is.

2019-09-14 13:20:52 UTC

What are you using for your DNS?

2019-09-14 13:44:58 UTC

It looks like you're using the 101domain name servers at the moment, so you'd probably use this: https://help.101domain.com/hosting/using-plesk/link-a-new-subdomain

2019-09-14 13:47:29 UTC

Are there any Gopher servers left anymore?

2019-09-14 13:47:39 UTC

I remember I had to do something similar to this when I set up a subdomain for my Minecraft server, which is also not a webpage. Though I went through DigitalOcean.

2019-09-14 13:48:07 UTC

Well, I was using namecheap as the registrary, but pointing to DigitalOcean's nameservers.

2019-09-14 13:49:16 UTC

BTW, would recommend them. Their most basic VPS is cheaper than a lot of other places' shared hosting.

2019-09-14 13:50:23 UTC

I'm going to reacquaint myself with Vim's finer features today.

2019-09-14 13:50:23 UTC

no you're just being gay again

2019-09-14 13:50:27 UTC

fug u

2019-09-14 13:50:38 UTC

Vim is great.

2019-09-14 13:54:08 UTC

I love how you can take a visual selection and pipe it through some linux command.

2019-09-14 13:54:43 UTC

Or just the entire file.

2019-09-14 13:55:09 UTC

Like if you do :%!figlet

2019-09-14 13:56:06 UTC

I have a few of those keybound just because doing that sort of thing is pretty useful.

2019-09-14 13:56:07 UTC

you know what other people have? a gf.

2019-09-14 13:56:14 UTC

tfwno

2019-09-14 13:58:19 UTC

Thing is you could always install Bind and set up your own nameserver, and have your registrar point to that.

2019-09-14 14:11:57 UTC

@auxchar i hate 101domain, but it was the cheapest option back in 2017 when i made my website

2019-09-14 14:12:09 UTC

and im too lazy to switch since its work to switch

2019-09-14 14:12:38 UTC

Alright, but you know what I'm getting at, right?

2019-09-14 14:16:25 UTC

You could probably file a ticket to get a record pointed at your irc server.

2019-09-14 14:26:58 UTC

DigitalOcean has a nice comfy panel for doing DNS stuff like that, though.

2019-09-14 15:02:29 UTC

do you know how much work goes into changing the nameserver?
