As far as I understand it, the commies were pragmatic when it came to arms. It was less a universally respected right, and more a necessary tool of political leverage. Maybe they had differences from that in rhetoric, but they understood that while their power was contested, their followers needed to have guns. And if they considered their comrades entire classes, or races, then that entire class should be armed.
