um..... that MLK article opens with people improving their neighborhood... I don't see the cause for cynicism
`As Thomas fans out across the neighborhood with hammer and nails, King’s legacy of peace and racial and social justice will be foremost in his mind. But at the same time, he’s struggling to come to grips with the deep racial divisions roiling the nation under President Donald Trump.
“Dr. King wanted unity. We have Trump separating immigrants ... the wall,” said the 19-year-old Thomas who is black.`

`The front-runners in the field are all white men and women.
“It’s disappointing, but really not surprising. You look at it and think, ‘damn, now what?'" said Xavier Cheatum, 22, an African American senior at Eastern Michigan who along with Hood is participating in King events on the school's Ypsilanti campus, west of Detroit.`
when i see black people i get disappointed, so dont worry Xavier the feeling is mutual.

@Jokerfaic possible cynicism over MLK day usually being overlooked for black history month in recent years
I can see that, yeah
i mean MLK day set aside... I dont see how the people in this article can say something like what Xavier said and not realize that that sounds "racist"
the article is clearly written in a subversive way in my opinion, thats what i was joking about with that sarcastic comment
or am i just crazy? @Jokerfaic
Well I did comment on how it opened. If something further on says that, I'm in no position to argue the matter
ah i see, well yea those quotes are from the article
and it had me like <:thunk:462282216467333140>
I mean, is he commenting on the democrat lineup, or the folks improving their neighborhood
he is commenting on the dem lineup
so like... lets say i said.... oh all the candidates are black and because of that im disappointed...
xavier id imagine would say that that is racist
well, fair enough, but I don't give a flying fuck about the election at this point. I'm more interested in the well meaning folks in the beginning
more pleasant to think about
i mean its kinda funny tho that they make this article and like the first paragraph is about that right but then you read the whole thing and its like. by the way trump is racist
thats pretty insidious dont you think? i mean... i imagine all the people reading this article who are just normies you know
I haven't reflected on the worldview of a normie for many years
they prob read this article
and are like... das rite. trump racist i knew it
<:pepelaugh:544857300179877898>
well what the fuck are you or I supposed to do about the net decrease in critical thinking? I've got my own problems.
panic about it idk
🤷♂️
it's crazy to think that martin luther king day is even a thing really, especially when the holiday honoring george washington's birthday is usually just called "presidents' day"
Well, the way I understand it, Washington wasn't interested in grand fame.
don't suppose King was either, but surely presidents' day is meant for all who've held the office
and to remember we are governed by an elected president, not a born monarch
@Omar_The_OMAP in fairness there isnt much he can do
he isnt a judge
and fed funding is handled by Congress
@Death in June its so the black people dont riot and murder
like they alwys do
Who's ready for the misinformation campaign in Virginia tomorrow?
