some others left under different terms
I suppose technically they left the EEC not the EU
greenland left the EEC
And they left before it was politicised and grew authoritarian

clearly not understanding knock on effects of coastal population growths, housing developments, which need builders, architects, plumbers, electricians... sales, marketing, lawyers .. not to mention more shops, businesses and restaurants in the area, which will all need services
> On Wednesday it emerged that the UK has been quietly increasing its maritime defences in a bid to avoid a rerun of the 1970s “cod wars”.
Fuck the yanks and their boogaloo, we're gonna be sinking Dutch fishermen off the coast of Newcastle
``Only six EU nationals have had their bids to settle in the UK rejected, while applications to remain in the UK have passed three million, internal figures show.
More than 2.7 million of the applicants have been granted permission to remain. The six rejected were on the grounds of “serious criminality”, where applicants are assessed to represent a “genuine, present and sufficiently serious threat.”``

Imean, affordable housing is a good thing, especially when there is a housing crisis that is screwing over native people~
I've been noticing that housing is not only a problem in Iceland, but in many countries in Europe and usually it is the native people, especially young people, who are not able to move out due to the high prices of living by yourself/starting your own family
I see... so devaluing properties of the people that own homes and have huge mortgages to pay off.. puts them in negative equity so they wont be able to remortgage is the solution?
its a problem because we've had austerity since the 2007/8 crash.. which we've only just about almost paid off
once wage growth hits normal paces and interest rates begin to rise again both home owners and new buyers will be helped
its generally better to help everyone, than just one group
I don't know. In countries such as mine, foreign investors filled in the void and a lot of houses just got either sold off or rented out exclusively to big businesses like Air BnB. Hard to know if they will actually roll back on that for the people actually living in the country or if they will just continue on getting money from foreign investors
I dont think thats as big of a problem as people make out.. there have always been a percentage of foreign investors
It's a huge problem in Iceland and Portugal, that is something I can assure you of. Can't say whether it is a huge problem in Britain or not~
they will only buy if they speculate it will go up in value.. and that means the local population needs to also continue buying en masse
if they think it will be too expensive and local people will stop buying, then their investment will crumble and will be worthless.. they will lose money
