Dan Houser, Co-founder and lead writer of Rockstar, has left the company.

2020-02-05 02:23:11 UTC

I need to get a new harddrive for my PC. Should I get just the chip or the case too? The PC I have rn is the first one I've ever owned, so please be patient I have boomerism

2020-02-05 02:53:04 UTC

@Windleaf they added battleships to PS2?!

2020-02-05 02:53:33 UTC

or... no that looks like a carrier?

2020-02-05 03:49:00 UTC

Ah, Fallout 2

2020-02-05 03:49:46 UTC

Making a mad dash to the Enclave to convince them you're a recruit to pick up lategame armor (not endgame, the one on the oil rig has better resistance stats) immediately at the start....

2020-02-05 03:49:51 UTC

Good times.

2020-02-05 04:09:12 UTC

Is the one on the oil rig the one where you get the best dialogue line in the game?

2020-02-05 04:09:49 UTC

"The President of the United Fucking States of America, who the fuck did you think I was -- what the fu- who is -- wha-- who the fuck is this, I should kick your ass!"

2020-02-05 04:20:01 UTC

@Trainspotting_Vagabond I don’t want to come off as an ass here... but the three sentences you typed... literally don’t mean anything.

Before anyone here can assist you:
Define “Hard drive”
Define “Chip”
Define “Case”

I highly suspect that these words don’t mean... what you think they mean.

2020-02-05 04:21:00 UTC

Yeah I have only had a PC for a year now, and this is the first time I’m considering upgrading

2020-02-05 04:21:24 UTC

I don’t much space on my D and C drives

2020-02-05 04:22:19 UTC

And I’m confused on the difference between these two. I’m thinking that the “chip” is for a laptop while the “case” is used for a desktop @Scale_e

2020-02-05 04:22:56 UTC

I’m just not looking to buy bullshit I don’t need, you know I mean

2020-02-05 04:24:45 UTC

You didn’t come off as an ass, if I don’t know what I’m talking about then I don’t know.

2020-02-05 04:26:41 UTC

Ok so do you understand the basics of modern computer architecture and what the bits are

2020-02-05 04:27:10 UTC

It's fine if you don't, just getting a baseline

2020-02-05 04:28:06 UTC

I’m not familiar with pc hardware in the slightest lmao

2020-02-05 04:28:58 UTC

Ok so, you basically have three parts to all modern machines-
the processor (does math), the storage (holds math), and the peripherals (pictures/mice/keyboards)

2020-02-05 04:29:45 UTC

Ah okay, just the very basics then

2020-02-05 04:31:16 UTC

In processors, you have GPUs for making pictures happen and CPUs for everything else. For storage, you need cache (that's in the CPU and the motherboard), primary (the RAM), and secondary (the hard drive, which comes in the big cheap HDD format and the costly fast SSD format). I will leave what peripherals you need up to you but you probably want either a motherboard that talks to wifi/ethernet or a card to do the same.

2020-02-05 04:32:18 UTC

These bits are tied together with the motherboard, powered by the power supply, and hooked together with PCI slots and a labyrinthian morass of GLORIOUS cables

2020-02-05 04:33:29 UTC

So then the question becomes, what do you need to improve in your current machine, primarily.

2020-02-05 04:33:43 UTC

The amount of storage space

2020-02-05 04:34:07 UTC

Ideally I’d like to increase to 4 Terabytes

2020-02-05 04:34:25 UTC

So you need to check how many SATA ports your motherboard has and how many m.2, 3.5" or 2.5" bays you've got (if desktop)

2020-02-05 04:35:07 UTC

Cause I have only 3 programs that take up the majority of the space on my PC

2020-02-05 04:35:13 UTC

UE4

2020-02-05 04:35:23 UTC

The Ark Dev Kit for modding

2020-02-05 04:35:35 UTC

And Ark itself for the mods I use alongside the game

2020-02-05 04:36:20 UTC

Do you know what motherboard you have, or if your computer was pre-made, what model it is?

2020-02-05 04:37:15 UTC

It was built by my friend, which he sold to me. It’s worth about 1000 in total

2020-02-05 04:37:22 UTC

That’s the most I know about it

2020-02-05 04:37:52 UTC

k

2020-02-05 04:37:55 UTC

I’m making a stop at Best Buy tomorrow, so I’ll be talking to the guys there tomorrow as well.

In the windows search, find 'system information'

2020-02-05 04:39:18 UTC

In the system summary tab (left side), you should see an entry under 'system manufacturer' (right side) that says 'system model'

2020-02-05 04:40:32 UTC

should look like this

What does that model say
