Actually, is there a way to just use dopamine as a drug?

2020-02-18 02:14:06 UTC

That shit would be stronger than cocaine if you could actually get it to your receptors I would think

2020-02-18 02:14:36 UTC

the beginnings of a self made man right here

2020-02-18 02:17:35 UTC

Huh, dopamine isn't actually a cause of pleasure, just a response to it that builds habit

2020-02-18 02:17:39 UTC

taiga

2020-02-18 02:18:13 UTC

Having extra dopamine or no dopamine doesn't enhance or inhibit the experience of pleasure

2020-02-18 02:22:28 UTC

Now I'm wondering, could dopamine be an addictive drug despite the fact that it wouldn't provide pleasure?

2020-02-18 02:22:42 UTC

Just skip the pleasure part and go straight to habit

2020-02-18 02:23:02 UTC

I thought the point of drugs was to cause a dopamine response

2020-02-18 02:23:09 UTC

That's interesting

2020-02-18 02:23:13 UTC

It is

2020-02-18 02:23:21 UTC

This is actually really cool

2020-02-18 02:23:45 UTC

So dopamine on its own isn't what does it?

2020-02-18 02:24:55 UTC

I mean, dopamine is linked to pleasure responses, which is where that hypothesis came from but it looks like they managed to remove it from animals and they still showed signs of pleasure, but didn't form associated habits like normal animals would

2020-02-18 02:26:00 UTC

so dopamine is part of habit formation but not a singular cause of pleasure

2020-02-18 02:26:13 UTC

And its linked to a bunch of other things because the brain is super fuckin complicated and no hormone does just one thing
