excluding the only evidence of something means that its impossible, that does make logical sense, but its also a pointless thing to say

2020-02-28 16:14:18 UTC

If you just exclude data you want to you can come to any idiot conclusion you want

2020-02-28 16:14:19 UTC

I mean if you want to go by that logic ninja

2020-02-28 16:14:20 UTC

Which for our purposes, is immeasurable

2020-02-28 16:14:22 UTC

You don't exist

2020-02-28 16:14:36 UTC

No chance of ninja existing

2020-02-28 16:14:38 UTC

Checks out

2020-02-28 16:14:51 UTC

The point were making is that until we have any observations of life elsewhere we have to assume we are the only ones.

2020-02-28 16:15:00 UTC

Then we have to ask why isn't it everywhere.

2020-02-28 16:15:13 UTC

because it is, we just cant go there

2020-02-28 16:15:21 UTC

yet

2020-02-28 16:15:28 UTC

Because it is simpler to consider the Earth is forced to have life, rather than a natural process at that point.

2020-02-28 16:15:31 UTC

You guys should go to the debate channel

2020-02-28 16:15:37 UTC

Because either life is universal, or unique.

2020-02-28 16:15:38 UTC

<#680587502918041623>

2020-02-28 16:15:39 UTC

the debate channel has slow mode

2020-02-28 16:15:44 UTC

which isnt suited to this discussion

2020-02-28 16:15:51 UTC

works better then

2020-02-28 16:15:56 UTC

What? Why do we have to assume that? It's better to assume that because the universe is huge and old chances are at least someone else exists somewhere as long as we exist

2020-02-28 16:15:56 UTC

And I argue it is more likely that life is unique and therefore we're either in a simulation, or there's a God.

2020-02-28 16:15:59 UTC

I mean, I find it funny though that in my favorite Science fiction setting - Traveller - there is no true FTL drive as we think of it. And the "Empire" in the setting only covers 1.5% of the Milkyway galaxy.

Humanity itself only encountering its first Alien Species in the year 2661 by accident when sending ships beyond earth's solar system.

2020-02-28 16:16:12 UTC

more thought out discussions

2020-02-28 16:16:16 UTC

how is it more likely that life is unique

2020-02-28 16:16:45 UTC

13 billion years and billions of light years, 1 planet

2020-02-28 16:17:01 UTC

What you mean

2020-02-28 16:17:06 UTC

Name is link

2020-02-28 16:17:18 UTC

Both have corona in name

2020-02-28 16:17:23 UTC

Because life goes against what we understand of chemistry, physics and biology. Life happening is nonsense.

2020-02-28 16:17:25 UTC

Therefore both are virus

2020-02-28 16:17:32 UTC

when there are millions of planets with water, in the correct temperature zone with access to the basic building blocks of life

2020-02-28 16:17:33 UTC

That's just not true ninja

2020-02-28 16:17:36 UTC

@NinjaQuick What the fuck are you talking about

2020-02-28 16:17:37 UTC

it doesnt go against what we understand

2020-02-28 16:17:42 UTC

That's the exact opposite

2020-02-28 16:17:42 UTC

we understand pretty damn well how life works

2020-02-28 16:17:54 UTC

Just don't forget, you're racist if you avoid chinese people because you're afraid of catching something

2020-02-28 16:18:00 UTC

The fact we have life here is the only evidence we have that it is possible at all.

2020-02-28 16:18:07 UTC

...

2020-02-28 16:18:12 UTC

Life goes against biology
