I mean, I find it funny though that in my favorite Science fiction setting - Traveller - there is no true FTL drive as we think of it. And the "Empire" in the setting only covers 1.5% of the Milkyway galaxy.

Life is a given if water and the right temperature is present
but the fact that we know it is possible to have life spontaniously arise given certain conditions, or else we wouldnt be here
Intelligent life however
and that we know of millions of planets where those conditions are happening
in that we may be unique
kinda means that the odds are close to 100% that other life exists
it is just so far away we cant contact or study it
We do not know the conditions that generate life because we have never observed matter on its own form life. Even in ideal conditions.
