i want bernie to win, just so that the US can drop off the top 50 on the democracy index

Voluntary exchange remain in the mixed economy, @Seven Proxies. The function of the market, relying upon human action, does not change. You can distort it, yes, but you're not magically relinquished from those distortions because you now call it a mixed economy.

2020-02-18 13:00:54 UTC

We shall see, @honkhonk.

2020-02-18 13:01:00 UTC

@Jeremy Is paying taxes a "voluntary exchange"? Can you opt out of it?

2020-02-18 13:01:03 UTC

indeed

2020-02-18 13:01:16 UTC

Absolutely.

2020-02-18 13:01:22 UTC

People do it all the time, @Seven Proxies.

Do I look hot?

2020-02-18 13:01:58 UTC

Well I suppose you can "opt out" of paying taxes simply by not working and earning anything. Thereby circumventing income tax.

2020-02-18 13:02:03 UTC

You look lame and cringe

2020-02-18 13:02:11 UTC

You look gay

2020-02-18 13:07:21 UTC

how do you think trump would fair against Mike "stop and frisk" Bloomberg in the election?

2020-02-18 13:07:30 UTC

There are plenty of ways to circumvent income tax, @Seven Proxies. Much of it simply moves into what we refer to as the "black market," an elusive and unknown amount of commerce facilitated through non-standardized exchange; cryptocurrencies are a great example. You don't halt anything, really. North Korea is a great example of this, as is what has unfolded in local communities within which accumulation of capital had not yet reached a certain point to value labor at an artificially higher price point. They just engage in labor through informal means that are not subject to enforcement, which comes with all of that which you have regulated out of the formal market place through law.

2020-02-18 13:08:31 UTC

And yes, I know your solution is to identify that and execute them. šŸ˜„

2020-02-18 13:10:58 UTC

@Jeremy But the black market is illegal

2020-02-18 13:11:20 UTC

It is a violation of the laws of most mixed economies.

2020-02-18 13:11:43 UTC

your morals are admirable

2020-02-18 13:11:51 UTC

but they violate the NAP

2020-02-18 13:11:58 UTC

prepare to eat lead, communist

2020-02-18 13:12:53 UTC

Again, not even the North Korean regime was able to halt human action, @Seven Proxies.

2020-02-18 13:13:25 UTC

Their black market economy is larger than their formal economy.

2020-02-18 13:13:28 UTC

šŸ˜„

2020-02-18 13:13:53 UTC

And Kim straps people to anti-aircraft artillery.

2020-02-18 13:14:15 UTC

What's your plan?

2020-02-18 13:14:51 UTC

@Jeremy Well it doesn't really matter whether crime can be "prevented" or not.

You can't argue that a society has a "free market" by pointing to it's black market.

By that reasoning you defeat your own stance on the subject since evety society in the world has a black market, and so it would be pointless to do any of your prefetrd political reforms by simply saying: "Hey, if you don't like the current law, there's always the free/black market".

2020-02-18 13:15:49 UTC

No, I'm not really arguing it has a free market on that basis, but what I am arguing is you create the black market and self-organization prevails anyway.

2020-02-18 13:16:01 UTC

Also, the black market also deals in stuff like child porn, sex slaves, drug trafficking and illegal services like murder for hire etc.

So you'd have a hard time arguing for any "virtues" of the free market when it's stained with all that smut.

2020-02-18 13:16:18 UTC

The most totalitarian nation to ever exist in our history wasn't even able to escape this reality, however.

2020-02-18 13:16:44 UTC

What you're bascally saying is that all laws should be abandoned, because crime will always exist.

2020-02-18 13:16:50 UTC

It's a fools errand, and all you do is reduce people to poverty, waste resources, and so on.
