Nice
Open source means anyone CAN make fork of it
So today I found a 2-in-1 laptop by Acer. I will tell you any updates
Update 1 (2020-02-12): Laptop lacks hdd / ssd, wifi card and multiple screws. I might think about getting all screws from my Dell laptop and see it would fit
Another thing is I might consider adding up more stuff to it
To my knowledge, and some research, Acer doesn't have BIOS whitelist. Even if IT DOES have it, I can still use usb tethering feature of my Galaxy S8 for internet connection
Also I might consider extracting intel wifi card from Dell Latitude E4200, OR Inspiron N5110
It has 4GB soldered RAM and another RAM slot, so I can make it 8GB
Update 2: I plugged in charger, I spent $57 on including tax to buy a charger from tech store nearby school. It does charge and battery does hold charge. It boots normally to BIOS, and confirmed specs like this:
Only defect but if monitor and keyboard hooked up it's fine
I got one with a functioning keyboard
Acer?
Only that key is troubled and tend to use laptops hooked to monitor and keyboard
And if you got same model, does it have wifi whitelist? I am not sure but I heard acer don't have bios whitelist
(HP and Lenovo def have it and I know it,
Kinda reminds me of Rich Rebuilds with his Tesla
Still, it's nothing compared to my $0 MacBook Pro Retina 13 inch 2015
Or I can rotate it around and use it like Surface but only with BT keyboard
@Mintmaru if you want to change the wifi settings and capabilities just change the wireless chip and I don't know what the bios is like
The one I found was a dell actually
I heard acer don't have bios wifi whitelist so I am taking it home now
Dell 2-in-1?
I'm not sure I just checked it over quickly
I couldn't expand ram with existing 4gb stick cause it uses ddr3l
And wifi card screw doesn't fit
At least it doesn't appear to have bios whitelist
That shouldn't be too big of an issue
I have some spare wifi cards if you want one
Yes
Card is not a problem screw is the real prob
Screw that puts wifi card on place
I have a couple screws
Guess what I made wifi working with wifi card from x200ma
So Acer doesn't have bios whitelist confirmed. Yay!
Keyboard feels like crap
And battery life is superior comparing to other laptops
Probably best except my $0 Mac
It might help to get the service manual and see what screw types fit
Also you can get replacement keys online from replacementlaptopkeys.com for about $4 per key, ive used them for when keys broke and the replacements are as close to OE as you can get
Might go without saying but do use linux, ive seen better battery life and performance of course so it definitely will help if you dont mind sacrificing compatibility
It's very random judging by the ones I've harvested recently
