I don't think that is the only motive to shooting up a school. Seems to me, it's usually those who are already suicidal, they decide they may as well have some fun, cause some pain before they go

I think that is definitely the primary motive. If they wanted to have "some fun", there are many more fun things they could do than shooting up a school
