I think that shit like cartel execution and brazilian prison murder videos can serve a practical purpose
they are a great way to dehumanize your enemy
i don't even care anymore
fuckit
and dehumanization is important in conflicts, keeps you from thinking about how the other guy has a wife and kids and is a dude just like you
it prevents hesitation
So we should force our military to watch isis beheading videos
Sounds like propaganda to fear isis
is that you Mango? lookin good mayne, lol
we used to achieve that through propaganda, make your enemy seem like monsters and non-human beasts
idk why it's upside down i've fucked with it over and over and it keeps doing that
Whats the point in dehumanizing a lion
Still gonna fuck u
Plus
When you respect your enemy youre on your toes
At all times
if you make them seem like comical idiots and caricatures soldiers fight a lot less hard when faced with the reality that the punch line of a joke is trying very hard to mortar them
The enemy is a skilled and good one
Always respect your enemy
by making them seem like monsters its easier for the soldier to commit to violence without hesitation
Dude nah
he already has justified shooting any afghani on a cell phone he sees while in a convoy etc
what you're saying Rusty is objectively true, it holds a practical purpose, whether it is right or wrong tho, is another matter
Nothing is right in war man
you either come home or you don't
btw all the shit I'm talking is stuff from the On Combat and On Killing books, great reads if you guys haven't heard of them
people will always look at things subjectively, and stick to arbitrary beliefs, and morals
nothing is really right or wrong, ever
>The good news is that most soldiers are loath to kill. But armies have developed sophisticated ways of overcoming this instinctive aversion. And contemporary civilian society, particularly the media, replicates the army's conditioning techniques, and, according to Lt. Col. Dave Grossman's thesis, is responsible for our rising rate of murder among the young.
Upon its initial publication, ON KILLING was hailed as a landmark study of the techniques the military uses to overcome the powerful reluctance to kill, of how killing affects soldiers, and of the societal implications of escalating violence. Now, Grossman has updated this classic work to include information on 21st-century military conflicts, recent trends in crime, suicide bombings, school shootings, and more. The result is a work certain to be relevant and important for decades to come.
probs interesting books, will keep 'em in mind
on killing is the one to read if you don't want to join the military
on combat is moreso about how someone can be prepared for combat and how the body and mind respond under high stress. On Killing is about what happens to a person when they kill and how militaries indoctrinate people to bypass their natural value system of not wanting to hurt others
good to read, regardless of if you intend on using the information literally, I imagine
yeah
are/were you ever in the military?
Sounds like pussies need that training
You "dehumanize" lets say
Your enemy flanks you with excellent communication and coordination
