@Deleted User are you sure about that

2018-04-08 13:54:43 UTC

XDD

2018-04-08 14:02:14 UTC

i think there is a baseline mode of human behavior that's only unlocked in fight-or-flight situations and in games

2018-04-08 14:02:55 UTC

where the mind is 100% focused on success and how to achieve it in a narrow sense

2018-04-08 14:03:29 UTC

what people in sports refer to as the "flow state"

2018-04-08 14:05:14 UTC

inner dialogue with ourselves is what keeps us in check normally and this inner dialogue dissolves into non-verbal flow thinking when the right conditions are met

2018-04-08 14:08:51 UTC

if there is a "true person" it can only be understood thru direct action and not any other kind of expression

2018-04-08 14:09:17 UTC

so if a person is trained in one way or another imo that becomes a part of his true self

2018-04-08 14:11:01 UTC

but also i do think people are multi-faceted and that which is expressed in one environment is not necessarily the be-all end-all of a person

2018-04-08 14:11:03 UTC

take soldiers for example

2018-04-08 14:11:31 UTC

they live according to two wildly different axioms of behavior and outside of PTSD are generally skilled at knowing the correct time for each

2018-04-08 14:12:58 UTC

you can't say that a soldiers "true self" is the violence he has to enact, nor the perfected protocol of rank he must abide by

2018-04-08 14:14:07 UTC

perhaps in the case of soldiers the true self is the consciousness that mediates their action

2018-04-08 14:14:22 UTC

a very densely built-up series of if-then statements

2018-04-08 14:16:34 UTC

if anything the true self resides in the decision-state of this cycle

2018-04-08 14:19:56 UTC

but not necessarily in the playing of games

2018-04-08 14:20:28 UTC

game-playing frees us to "go for the kill" so to speak

2018-04-08 14:22:01 UTC

i like to use chess as an example of this

2018-04-08 14:22:41 UTC

because it's such a restrictive game itself, and the physical action of the game is limited to moving pieces around a board, so it's pretty much 100% mental effort

2018-04-08 14:23:34 UTC

a good chess player bends himself to the destruction of his opponent within an incredibly limited scope

2018-04-08 14:24:09 UTC

his mind is as focused on this as a fighter pilot on winning a dogfight or a basketball player attempting to snatch the ball from an opposing players hand

2018-04-08 14:24:52 UTC

a good chess players "goes for the kill" as aggressively and single-mindedly as anyone

2018-04-08 14:26:06 UTC

games themselves are like a weird sub-reality where everything is replaced with a lesser form of itself

2018-04-08 14:26:15 UTC

and we accept the rules as a civilizing factor or something

2018-04-08 14:26:21 UTC

this is where i'm not really coherent

2018-04-08 14:27:24 UTC

we easily and readily accept rulesets and convention in games for some reason

2018-04-08 14:27:37 UTC

we've got this concept of recognized success that we need to satisfy

2018-04-08 14:28:55 UTC

someones gotta figure this shit out before 2025 or we're all fucked

2018-04-08 14:31:37 UTC

yeah war crimes are not unlike "cheating" in a game

2018-04-08 14:31:42 UTC

your "win" is not recognized by others

2018-04-08 14:31:46 UTC

and you can be punished

2018-04-08 14:32:06 UTC

wow i'm fuckin stupid this morning

2018-04-08 14:33:09 UTC

also olympic athletes are a good example of this

2018-04-08 14:33:35 UTC

because they train all year long for a good chunk of their lives to participate in internationally recognized games

2018-04-08 14:34:19 UTC

the elite of the elite olympic athletes spare no expense in their striving to dominate their chosen game

2018-04-08 14:35:02 UTC

i just find the whole idea that even in our leisure we often want to be "fully activated" as it were

2018-04-08 14:35:07 UTC

very fascinating
