Appalachia also never really had slavery to the same degree.
Appalachia didnt have a Negro prob to deal with BUT where they were Negroes and Hillbilies have certain understandings
Like where my Dad grew up
they had racially integrated Schools
in the 1940s
Even in northern GA you have 90% white communities.
Kentucky didnt have Jim Crow
it had Local Option Jim Crow
which meant each county had a choice how much they could or would enforce
Thus some counties were as segregated as Mississippi
while others werent
Thats why KY was so wierd
@Billy Ray Jenkins there was still enforcement of cultural norms, blacks were held to a certain standard
Where my Dad grew up
right
Jeff says there are seagulls trapped in the eye
They integrated the town schools
but the county high was kept white
That was in the 1940s
That was in the mountains ie Local Option
i find old southern blacks quite interesting
now the next county over
the respect whites
they had Negro school and were fully segregated
understand we are different
and don't have antimosity towards us
Now West Virginia had full Jim Crow
23k watching Jeff
because her Constitution was basically a rip off of Virginias
that generation is quickly dying off, and they were unable to fix the post civil rights era population
it's a shame
I used to live beside a black church with a lot of old attendees and they definitely have a different attitude than the younger ones.
The Southern Whites who were born after 1920
were a much weaker breed
than ones born before
@Billy Ray Jenkins There are virtually no blacks in WV at all, from my experience. Very few.
