Here's something to think about

we are both always clapping and not clapping

the action of clapping is creating intermittant impulses that are seperated by arbitrary distance in time

however, we can generally say we have stopped clapping

and there is some threshold where it seems we have stopped clapping

I think this strange interrelationhip between the description and reality is due to the fact that a clap is (practically speaking in perceptual terms) infinitely short
