that torrent chat thing already exist

2019-03-14 03:56:00 UTC

s

2019-03-14 03:56:31 UTC

@TwinVickers What is it? Is it for Discord like chat?

2019-03-14 03:56:50 UTC

it's a default plugin in vuze

2019-03-14 03:56:58 UTC

Oh, okay

2019-03-14 03:58:05 UTC

but it's fairly basic, with the magnet link you can chat between people downloading it (if they have that same plugin)

2019-03-14 03:58:35 UTC

Yeah, that's pretty different than what I'm talking about

2019-03-14 03:58:35 UTC

so it's decentralized and you can download via tor or vpn or socks or whatever

2019-03-14 03:59:29 UTC

but it's a good base for further development

2019-03-14 03:59:34 UTC

if that's your thing

2019-03-14 04:02:36 UTC

essentially the same as irc but without a server. with a pass key you can limit who joins and if you know java you can add moderators etc.

2019-03-14 04:03:22 UTC

i remember a similar software but it ran via irc dcc

2019-03-14 04:04:09 UTC

but that was 20 years ago, i don't think it became a thing

2019-03-14 04:25:49 UTC

@TwinVickers I think you're talking about Bitmessage, with that Vuze plugin

2019-03-14 04:26:24 UTC

If you have the passcode/address hash, you can enter a room

2019-03-14 04:26:44 UTC

So there's no way to ban people, or create a ranking system

2019-03-14 04:26:58 UTC

Very insecure

2019-03-14 04:28:32 UTC

Unless you come up with your own client that integrates encryption and multiple addresses that are "grouped" together into "servers", with revolving keys that are attached to a member list

2019-03-14 04:29:03 UTC

If you're not on the list, you can't see the unencrypted messages anymore

2019-03-14 04:29:13 UTC

Why don't you make one yourself?

2019-03-14 04:29:23 UTC

Cause I can't fucking code lmao

2019-03-14 04:29:47 UTC

*Don't say it, don't say it!*

It's interesting to take a dive into the dissenter section of pages that don't have comments

Fitz is full of soy

2019-03-14 12:45:11 UTC

@galesteppes Ur mean

2019-03-14 13:19:34 UTC

@Fitzydog no, the problem is, with video/audio chat you need low latency but direct connection will reveal your IP. And bouncing it around a bunch to make it harder to track will result in shit latency. With the server model, this issue does not exist.

2019-03-14 13:20:50 UTC

But moderation is a bigger issue anyway.

2019-03-14 13:22:37 UTC

You HAVE to have some sort of authority for that, which is a big problem if this shit is decentralized

2019-03-14 13:27:52 UTC

@leavethisbotnet This is not for video/audio, just text.

There's no chat protocols that organize things the way discord does with the "server/channel" model

2019-03-14 13:29:10 UTC

What's IRC then?

2019-03-14 13:33:44 UTC

IRC doesn't handle the "server/channel" model in the same way as discord @leavethisbotnet

2019-03-14 13:33:52 UTC

IRC does it *better*

2019-03-14 17:25:05 UTC

@turtwig Oof.

What about image and link embedding? Do modern clients handle that well?

2019-03-14 17:25:21 UTC

yes
