Businesses do business anyway

2018-08-06 00:33:59 UTC

the car industry does not operate to make any kind of loss, instead it will deceive regulators and consumers while maintaining profit

2018-08-06 00:34:10 UTC

that means that regulations force substandard products usually

2018-08-06 00:34:31 UTC

but car manufacturers aren't going to start producing things that literally wont sell

2018-08-06 00:34:33 UTC

Hol' up

2018-08-06 00:34:45 UTC

cocaine why are you the only rational person in this chat

2018-08-06 00:34:56 UTC

Was it the Porsche 944 or some other car that...wait I'm gonna need to look this up to get numbers

2018-08-06 00:35:15 UTC

@Sediment It would be incredibly unusual for an industry to not have loss leaders.

2018-08-06 00:35:33 UTC

I don't know of any other industry that does, at least not that sells directly to private consumers

2018-08-06 00:35:36 UTC

What the fuck do you think a loss leader is for?

2018-08-06 00:35:41 UTC

What is the function of a loss leader

2018-08-06 00:35:49 UTC

Or other products sold for a loss.

2018-08-06 00:36:06 UTC

loss leaders don't work in the car industry

2018-08-06 00:36:30 UTC

No one is going to the car store for a big sale and then deciding "Oh while I'm here let me just spend *an extra fifty thousand dollars*"

2018-08-06 00:36:38 UTC

loss leaders work for places like walmart to get people through the door and buy the loss product and other products which counter the loss, but yeah

2018-08-06 00:36:49 UTC

cars are mostly a one off purchase

2018-08-06 00:36:55 UTC

You can, however, sell a car with the intention of shining positive light on a brand

2018-08-06 00:37:02 UTC

Ie, halo cars

2018-08-06 00:37:30 UTC

but no mass production car can do that because it would be too costly

2018-08-06 00:37:34 UTC

I will apologize for being rude earlier. @Sediment I was frustrated after the deal with Matt.

2018-08-06 00:37:52 UTC

I won't apologize but I will accept yours

2018-08-06 00:38:05 UTC

Well....fuck you I guess?

2018-08-06 00:38:12 UTC

Did you mean that to sound assholish?

2018-08-06 00:38:20 UTC

It kind of did.

2018-08-06 00:38:25 UTC

ford europe got themselves into a slight issue by basically upping the quality of the fiesta and focus so far that it was better than the vast majority of their competitors but simultaneously couldn't up their cost to match due to the brand

2018-08-06 00:38:52 UTC

they weren't making a loss, but it ate into profits a fair chunk

2018-08-06 00:40:38 UTC

Alright I will admit I was wrong on the subject of selling the cars at a complete loss.

2018-08-06 00:41:44 UTC

Word of advice though, @Sediment Going on the back end of horseshit and calling names tends to result in more shit being stirred up

2018-08-06 00:41:53 UTC

ford now sell the fiesta at the same money as the vw polo, but it means a lot of people buy the polo because "german engineering" while the fiesta is the better car

2018-08-06 00:42:13 UTC

Brand loyalty is disgusting

2018-08-06 00:42:35 UTC

Hell "[x] country makes this car so I love it" loyalty is disgusting

2018-08-06 00:42:56 UTC

French cars are the best cars prove me wrong

2018-08-06 00:43:43 UTC

well the thing is traditionally germany made reliable products, and well

2018-08-06 00:44:07 UTC

I don't get that actually.

2018-08-06 00:44:08 UTC

like because of historical durability and quality of products, you felt safe buying from german manufacturers

2018-08-06 00:44:23 UTC

it's the same with japanese stuff

2018-08-06 00:44:23 UTC

Doesn't VW, BMW, and Mercedes stuff tend to be hit-or-miss?

2018-08-06 00:44:28 UTC

They make some amazing shit

2018-08-06 00:44:34 UTC

But holy shit do they make a few stinkers

2018-08-06 00:44:43 UTC

I have a personal dislike of VW

2018-08-06 00:44:50 UTC

Mercedes I like, their stuff is usually good
