You have 4 tech giants that are willing and able to control the ideological flow of natural conversation, and are being told which way to push by the Media/Political/Academic complex

2018-08-08 20:17:29 UTC

Why do you want the government to get involved in the internet? Also how would you propose the government regulate the internet?

2018-08-08 20:18:14 UTC

What 4 are you talking about? Google, Facebook, Twitter, and? @Fitzydog

2018-08-08 20:18:22 UTC

Apple

2018-08-08 20:18:26 UTC

What

2018-08-08 20:18:26 UTC

or Microsoft

2018-08-08 20:18:29 UTC

Basically uphold the laws of free speech regardless of the situation

2018-08-08 20:18:29 UTC

What

2018-08-08 20:18:54 UTC

The state can intervene if this right is infringed upon

2018-08-08 20:18:57 UTC

I guess I can see Microsoft because of Bing and the power of defaults, but even then that's a pretty weak case.

2018-08-08 20:19:08 UTC

Apple iMessage? Come on

2018-08-08 20:19:27 UTC

Data mining from their own devices?

2018-08-08 20:19:35 UTC

You think they're not doing that?

2018-08-08 20:19:44 UTC

I mean iPhones are only 15% of the market.

2018-08-08 20:19:57 UTC

they make fat stacks boi

2018-08-08 20:20:06 UTC

Apple is trying brand themselves as the privacy guys from what I understand.

2018-08-08 20:20:13 UTC

lol okay.

2018-08-08 20:20:38 UTC

I got something interesting for you here from a convo on a different server
government contractors ARE bound to generally abide by constitutional protections of speech, etc
ironically for this case, every major tech company is a government contractor because the NSA paid them to spy on people
this was proven in court
they are de jure government contractors

2018-08-08 20:20:40 UTC

Good luck with that when they're fully owned by China

2018-08-08 20:22:05 UTC

I don't believe a god damned word any of these tech companies say

2018-08-08 20:22:25 UTC

No one should

2018-08-08 20:22:48 UTC

apple have shown a lot of time they are not to be trusted at all.

2018-08-08 20:23:08 UTC

@franti that's an interesting argument. I need to think about it.

2018-08-08 20:23:46 UTC

Do you have a link to the court case?

2018-08-08 20:24:14 UTC

Examples? @Nordhand

2018-08-08 20:26:43 UTC

they will clock down your old phones to make you buy the laitest one. they are big on making it laptops desigined to fail just as your warrenty runs out. you have to rights to self repar any items. the list is long on consumer hostiles polisyes they run

2018-08-08 20:26:53 UTC

I mean the reason Siri is so bad compared to Cortana or Alexa is becauase Apple doesn't have the same amount of personal data on you.

2018-08-08 20:27:28 UTC

that and they haven't been pumping money into natural speech engines and shit for years

2018-08-08 20:27:39 UTC

well, not the same level of money

2018-08-08 20:27:47 UTC

That's not privicy issues. Apple isn't a tech company they are a tech marketing firm.

2018-08-08 20:28:17 UTC

@Shurik 1) no
2) it was technically only one tech company but it would be easy to argue in court that it would apply to the others
it was specifically regarding the fact that the NSA paid one of them (facebook I think?) for the equipment that let them collect traffic

2018-08-08 20:28:20 UTC

Apple has never been a pioneer in any feild. They have taken an old idea and perfected it.

2018-08-08 20:28:31 UTC

they show no contempt for it consumers. so why are you do trust they treat your private data any better

2018-08-08 20:28:42 UTC

Apple's business model is polishing turds

2018-08-08 20:28:49 UTC

and they are extremely good at it
