That's not a bad idea actually, if you have a spare USB stick you can try booting a live distro to see if it's your hardware that's fucking with you

it would tell you if your machine is taking a fucking age because of bad hardware or a bad windows install

My personal favorite is that Linux is highly modular. If you think any part is retarded, you can just swap it for something else. Think the file manager is AIDS? Use another one. Don't like the interface? Swap DEs
