I live
@Deleted User IMO, metaphysics is the only *'real'* part about religion.
But they can't get on board with the modern philosphers and their terminology so it will always be at odds with modern society
there's no studying how to live
your life has already been determined
<:GWfroggyPepoThumb:400751103223922689>
pft
every "choice" you make is anything but choice
cuz there's no such thing
I have the choice to pee on my carpet ok
I HAVE THE CHOICE TO FUCK MY CAT
No. I disagree. You make every choice in your life.
You choose if you're a good person.
I think Jordan peterson has the closest thing to a "grand unifying theory of metaphysical philosophy" with its relation to christianity, but most people disregard him as a kook
it's not the easiest thing to "secularize" religious concepts
(if we ignore the fact of the reptile brain that does every choice for us. but you get my point)
but what governs the way the brain works?
physics of course
I'm jewish I make my own choices
okay
does fucking your cat make you a good jew? <:GWfroggyMonkaMega:405753064100986880>
do you go to jewish heaven with 72 cats
<:GWvertiPeepoChrist:405951687480705024>
reptilian jewish heaven you clod
dont take my money
or my soul
pls
Jordan is on to something with his descriptions i think @Fitzydog
i think the closest you can get to explaining religious ideas without religious language, is to get into psychological ideas
Yes, my point exactly. They're practically saying the same things, yet they're speaking different languages, neither of which wants to use the others knowledge base or terminology
i agree
I try to understand it myself, but it's *very* abstract, to the point that I understand quantum mechanics better than this lmao
kinda hard to understand religion if you dont believe tbh.
i've been thinking about that a lot lately, ways to consolidate religious ideas with modern conceptions
@MountainMan That depends on what you mean by 'believe' as well lol
true
I *believe* that there's a correct interpretation of religion that is out of grasp of most people, but instead of trying to understand they just co-opt the preexisting language as an easy answer to lifes problems
i think the biggest problem is that religion has A LOT of baggage now a days, that if you aren't interested in it, it's really easy to dismiss it with "big man in the sky hur dur" or "i had a bad experiences growing up with shity religious people" etc.
I believe there's a god. A being which we can't comprehend. And that our life choices have consequenses. What these consequenses, or how it's all accounted I do not know. Only God could be able.
True, I'm still astonished by the fact I went my entire childhood not knowing that young earth creationism is *not* the majority opinion in religion.
it's the easiest thing to attack
also that crazy church
