I live

@Deleted User IMO, metaphysics is the only *'real'* part about religion.

But they can't get on board with the modern philosphers and their terminology so it will always be at odds with modern society

2018-11-03 20:37:40 UTC

there's no studying how to live

2018-11-03 20:37:47 UTC

your life has already been determined

2018-11-03 20:38:29 UTC

I have the choice to pee on my carpet ok

2018-11-03 20:38:46 UTC

I HAVE THE CHOICE TO FUCK MY CAT

2018-11-03 20:38:57 UTC

No. I disagree. You make every choice in your life.

2018-11-03 20:39:03 UTC

You choose if you're a good person.

2018-11-03 20:39:07 UTC

I think Jordan peterson has the closest thing to a "grand unifying theory of metaphysical philosophy" with its relation to christianity, but most people disregard him as a kook

2018-11-03 20:39:10 UTC

it's not the easiest thing to "secularize" religious concepts

2018-11-03 20:39:25 UTC

(if we ignore the fact of the reptile brain that does every choice for us. but you get my point)

2018-11-03 20:39:39 UTC

but what governs the way the brain works?

2018-11-03 20:39:43 UTC

physics of course

2018-11-03 20:39:46 UTC

I'm jewish I make my own choices

2018-11-03 20:39:48 UTC

2018-11-03 20:40:01 UTC

2018-11-03 20:40:04 UTC

2018-11-03 20:41:15 UTC

pls

2018-11-03 20:41:21 UTC

Jordan is on to something with his descriptions i think @Fitzydog
i think the closest you can get to explaining religious ideas without religious language, is to get into psychological ideas

2018-11-03 20:42:06 UTC

Yes, my point exactly. They're practically saying the same things, yet they're speaking different languages, neither of which wants to use the others knowledge base or terminology

2018-11-03 20:42:27 UTC

i agree

2018-11-03 20:43:22 UTC

I try to understand it myself, but it's *very* abstract, to the point that I understand quantum mechanics better than this lmao

2018-11-03 20:43:46 UTC

kinda hard to understand religion if you dont believe tbh.

2018-11-03 20:43:51 UTC

i've been thinking about that a lot lately, ways to consolidate religious ideas with modern conceptions

2018-11-03 20:44:22 UTC

@MountainMan That depends on what you mean by 'believe' as well lol

2018-11-03 20:45:15 UTC

true

2018-11-03 20:46:11 UTC

I *believe* that there's a correct interpretation of religion that is out of grasp of most people, but instead of trying to understand they just co-opt the preexisting language as an easy answer to lifes problems

2018-11-03 20:46:49 UTC

i think the biggest problem is that religion has A LOT of baggage now a days, that if you aren't interested in it, it's really easy to dismiss it with "big man in the sky hur dur" or "i had a bad experiences growing up with shity religious people" etc.

2018-11-03 20:47:20 UTC

I believe there's a god. A being which we can't comprehend. And that our life choices have consequenses. What these consequenses, or how it's all accounted I do not know. Only God could be able.

2018-11-03 20:48:01 UTC

True, I'm still astonished by the fact I went my entire childhood not knowing that young earth creationism is *not* the majority opinion in religion.

2018-11-03 20:48:20 UTC

it's the easiest thing to attack

2018-11-03 20:48:34 UTC

also that crazy church
