You can't have both

2018-12-08 18:25:33 UTC

The French are scared of Russia and China, and NATO is one of the few things protecting them from that.

2018-12-08 18:25:49 UTC

If they leave NATO, they will probably end up like Ukraine.

2018-12-08 18:25:50 UTC

Nah, NATO doesn't do that

2018-12-08 18:25:56 UTC

The US does

2018-12-08 18:26:13 UTC

the whole point of NATO is that if one nation is attacked, it will be deemed as an attack on all nations in NATO

2018-12-08 18:26:28 UTC

Also, France is nowhere near Russia so that's a dumb comparison

2018-12-08 18:27:04 UTC

The Mediterranean coast is easy access for the black sea fleet.

2018-12-08 18:27:13 UTC

And MY point, is that the only military who has the ability to retaliate is the US lol

2018-12-08 18:27:36 UTC

but the US won't get involved if its not a NATO country being attacked.

2018-12-08 18:27:58 UTC

the only reason they didn't get involved in Ukraine is because they weren't a part of NATO.

2018-12-08 18:28:22 UTC

Yeah, no, not really. If it's France/UK or other northwestern euro country, we'll get involved anyways

2018-12-08 18:29:08 UTC

I wouldn't be so sure about that. it took them a while before they got involved in the wars against Germany

2018-12-08 18:29:51 UTC

Different times. I'm American, believe me. Wed end up over there at some point, whether NATO exists or not

2018-12-08 18:30:19 UTC

NATO exists entirely for eastern Europe and Germany

2018-12-08 18:31:54 UTC

I understand that, but a lot of those European countries (France included) don't pay the 2% into their military like they're supposed to. Trump would be completely justified if you didn't get involved over there if they weren't in NATO.

2018-12-08 18:32:11 UTC

The world isn't a game of Risk. Wars are almost always a lose/lose situation for both sides

2018-12-08 18:32:23 UTC

Russia has no reason to even touch Western europe

2018-12-08 18:32:46 UTC

Ukraine has justification historically

2018-12-08 18:33:07 UTC

I wouldn't say its RIGHT, but there is precedence

2018-12-08 18:34:34 UTC

Crimea would be like the US and Canada fighting over Vancouver Island.

2018-12-08 18:34:46 UTC

it doesn't have to be Russia though.

2018-12-08 18:34:55 UTC

it could be China.

2018-12-08 18:34:59 UTC

it could be Turkey.

2018-12-08 18:35:05 UTC

it could be SA.

2018-12-08 18:35:37 UTC

if any nation attacks france should they leave NATO, NATO doesn't/ won't come to their aid. they aren't required to.

2018-12-08 18:35:44 UTC

You're absolutely right.

And a country who isn't willing to defend itself, is not a country I'm willing to protect for them on their behalf

2018-12-08 18:36:12 UTC

But you aren't the one making that decision.

2018-12-08 18:36:17 UTC

none of us are.

2018-12-08 18:36:32 UTC

it is stupid for them to *demand* to leave NATO.

2018-12-08 18:36:48 UTC

Also, treaties are not like a line of code/a program.

2018-12-08 18:36:48 UTC

if they are actually french.

2018-12-08 18:37:39 UTC

ok... but that doesn't mean that we are still going to come to their defence if they aren't a part of NATO.

2018-12-08 18:37:54 UTC

NATO would require us to come to their aid if something happened.

2018-12-08 18:37:58 UTC

It doesn't mean the opposite either

2018-12-08 18:37:59 UTC

salvini gattini

2018-12-08 18:38:05 UTC

why would you want to get rid of that protection?

2018-12-08 18:38:08 UTC

<:PepestanPenis:479767811246391325>

2018-12-08 18:38:16 UTC

HAHA

2018-12-08 18:38:24 UTC

You're making the assumption that if NATO doesn't exist, no one will help them
