@ScaredForLife regarding mixing 808 and kick together.. have you tried sidechain compression? Put a compressor on bass, and have external kick signal trigger it.. set release 30-50ms or something, and attack fast, probably under 1ms
So every time there's a kick, the bass will "make room" for the kick. If you want to take it step further, you could also use multiband compressor, to select which frequencies from bass you want to "duck" during kick trigger
@Tuze That's actually a great idea, I use the multiband compressor to even out the 808s anyway, so it might work if I assigned the sidechain to the low end compressor.
