neutrinos are the most recent case where we had to amend the standard model just a few years ago. we thought they were massless and proved thats not the case

their mass is so small that its actually not even definite, i.e. it doesnt commute with their flavor

since neutrinos are always emitted with a definite flavor (electron usually), that means theyre emitted with a superposition of different masses

existing as a superposition of masses means they travel at slightly different speeds and their wavefunction gets smeared out... the interference patterns changing can cause us to observe the neutrinos as a different flavor
