If it's totally chill leave it chill
Nah
That's where you put them in scenarios
The Platonic dialogues are a really good model for how to take over a lot of social situations with meaningful discourse
When I first read the Republic I thought to myself, "I've done this sort of dialogue pattern most of my life, by instinct."
yeah, people do that in their head natuarlly
thoughtful people at least
youre a natural
Part of what Socrates does, if you notice, is he makes people personally accountable
That's part of the trick to getting engagement
i wish i could bask in your glory
You put them into some sort of social proof situation
lol
So you mean try to get them to play along with hypotheticals, like "If it was your daughter or your son, would you put them on hormone blockers?"
I just bro it up with people first idk
If I piss them off they'll piss me off and then the discussion is pointless
I haven't read Plato's Republic.
I should read it?
yes!
I'm in the same boat, I really should read more of the classics
Is it better than Mein Kampf?
I'm kidding. I'll read it.
Let me just learn Greek first.
how hard can that be?
I've listened to The Republic more times than I've read it
seriously, is it hard to learn greek
Like I became buds with this coworker over maybe a month
And I got a feel for him and could tell where he was
Then I made a 1350 joke and his eyes bulged out of his head in excitement lol
That's all I'm good for <:smugooze:398100987866251265>
what's 1350
13% of the population...
oh
50% of crime
<:yay:638817157840502815>
1350 > facts and logic
The James Langton narration of *The Republic* is wonderful
@Trommm If you are going to really fire people's minds in public, you have to be willing to have some people who hate you, possibly for life
There are several people who hate me
But, there are people who unusually love me too
I don't mind hate. Though that would be harder in a family situation.
