5 hours long

2019-12-28 00:43:09 UTC

how much faster will your new machine do it?

2019-12-28 00:43:47 UTC

I think our PCs are about the same

2019-12-28 00:43:48 UTC

ROFL

2019-12-28 00:44:03 UTC

lemme check this processor

2019-12-28 00:45:47 UTC

I don't know how much faster

2019-12-28 00:45:56 UTC

the cpu is 16 vs my 4

2019-12-28 00:46:00 UTC

cores

2019-12-28 00:46:18 UTC

probably 4-5 times the speed

2019-12-28 00:46:22 UTC

but I don't know

2019-12-28 00:47:20 UTC

🤔

More cores does not mean more speed a lot of the time as most applications do not take advantage of all the cores avaliable.

2019-12-28 00:47:39 UTC

sure

2019-12-28 00:47:46 UTC

If you do video encoding, then it would matter

2019-12-28 00:47:46 UTC

but we're talking about rendering a video

2019-12-28 00:49:30 UTC

lol

2019-12-28 00:49:32 UTC

it's not the same

2019-12-28 00:49:44 UTC

It depends. I have a AMD FX-8350 that is overclocked. It is 8 cores, but only has one processing thread per core, compared to intel which has 2 threads per core. Intel tend to be faster but more expensive. Ryzen is good for the price.

AMD are good for budgets builds basically. If you have the cash to splash go with Intel.

I stand corrected the 9990k is much less. Go with that.

2019-12-28 00:53:00 UTC

he likes it because its 137% efficient as a workstation over the 9900's 99%

2019-12-28 00:53:43 UTC

Are there any benchmarks in regards to say video encoding?

2019-12-28 00:54:28 UTC

I'm guessing if you use something like Handbrake that can take advantage of all the threads/cores it would perform a lot better than 9990k

2019-12-28 00:54:51 UTC

But, for gaming and general applications, it will rank a bit less/the same

2019-12-28 00:55:06 UTC

well, I don't use my PC for work...

2019-12-28 00:55:13 UTC

so there's just more comparison

2019-12-28 00:55:18 UTC

I see

2019-12-28 00:55:20 UTC

half the price and better gaming performance...

2019-12-28 00:55:28 UTC

slacker

2019-12-28 00:55:31 UTC

It really depends on use

2019-12-28 00:55:48 UTC

For gaming I would just go with 9990k as it is much cheaper and is better suited.

2019-12-28 00:56:41 UTC

that's what I did

2019-12-28 00:56:53 UTC

If I'm doing video encoding or any intensive multithreaded applications that will utilize all of the cores/threads, then the Ryzen is worth it.

2019-12-28 00:56:58 UTC

my PC has half the ram though

2019-12-28 00:57:06 UTC

but that's modular I can install more at any time
