What do you think of evolution? @Yotta

2020-01-11 09:01:29 UTC

What, you mean, what do I think about factual reality? It exists

2020-01-11 09:01:44 UTC

The evidence for evolution is beyond question at this point

2020-01-11 09:01:58 UTC

One of the few things we do know from genetics is that evolution is built into the system

2020-01-11 09:02:20 UTC

However, Darwin's version was highly incomplete

2020-01-11 09:02:20 UTC

It's an outcome

2020-01-11 09:02:33 UTC

Jf already answered the mixed children question

2020-01-11 09:02:37 UTC

?

2020-01-11 09:02:54 UTC

Mendel should have gotten credit for evolution, not Darwin...Mendel did actual work on the topic, Darwin presented a dog breeding chart

2020-01-11 09:03:14 UTC

The pea guy ?

2020-01-11 09:03:19 UTC

(Mendel is the father of genetics)

2020-01-11 09:03:20 UTC

@Yotta you heard of Darwin devolves? Criticizes Darwin’s theory

2020-01-11 09:03:21 UTC

Yes

2020-01-11 09:03:38 UTC

Doesn’t deny evolution but questions the mechanisms I guess

Darwin's theory is obviously true, natural selection happens, but thinking that is the source of all speciation is nonsense

2020-01-11 09:03:58 UTC

There are many selective pressures*

2020-01-11 09:04:13 UTC

And, more importantly, those pressures* must act upon already existing genetic material

2020-01-11 09:04:17 UTC

Otherwise, you cannot select

2020-01-11 09:04:30 UTC

Ya he doesn’t deny adaptation to the environment but says it can’t account for the complexity that we see

2020-01-11 09:04:50 UTC

Look at this buch

2020-01-11 09:06:02 UTC

I already have a really long reading list ahead of me...but, you are free to summarize 🙂

2020-01-11 09:06:08 UTC

Much of adaptation is done through breaking existing mechanisms also. To have a new functional mutation happen is extremely unlikely and to have multiple dependent ones is astronomically small

2020-01-11 09:06:22 UTC

Mutation is not accidental...genetics proves that

2020-01-11 09:06:23 UTC

There's a bunch of authors discrediting Darwin

2020-01-11 09:06:43 UTC

Gametes "randomize" depending on a few factors

2020-01-11 09:07:01 UTC

Adaptations that we have actually seen are just breaking of existing functionality

2020-01-11 09:07:04 UTC

Stable environments results in fewer 'randomizations'...while stressful environments result in very diverse gametes

2020-01-11 09:07:23 UTC

Gametes are germ cells... i.e. for sexual reproduction

2020-01-11 09:07:36 UTC

Yes the book uses that example

2020-01-11 09:07:39 UTC

Et al

2020-01-11 09:07:53 UTC

Well, if the books talks about that, good, because that is what we know, as of now

2020-01-11 09:08:14 UTC

I’m not a biology expert, not my field, but I find it interesting

2020-01-11 09:08:21 UTC

I don’t know enough to criticize the ideas tbh

And, it is good you are honest enough to admit that, Smoke

Nothing more foolish than a person that claims to know things they do not...because, they do not know it and now they have made it much more difficult for themselves to ever know it

2020-01-11 09:09:24 UTC

What I am confident in is probably our overconfidence in understanding the universe
